MALYKA: FIFTEEN YEARS AGO I shiver as a cold wind blows across my body. The old newspapers I have stacked on myself don’t offer much protection from the cold. I don’t remember a time when I didn’t go to bed hungry and freezing. I’m a stray wolf, living in the small pockets of unclaimed territory between packs. I don’t remember anything from the start of my life, the years have been a blur as I fought to survive, living off of the scraps people throw away. There are a few of us that live this way. Although, I’m pretty sure I am the youngest. Most of the lost pups around here’s parents are dead, but me. I don’t think I ever had any parents to begin with. Not any that I remember anyway.
