Chapter 30: The Letter

CARAMIA: I awoke the next morning with a throbbing headache that threatened to split my head in two. The pain still a dull ache in my chest as I force my eyes apart. I put my arm beneath me to survey the room, the dim light of dawn creeping through the curtains. In the sliver of light from the door lay an envelope, casting darkness behind it, making me wonder what darkness it brings with it. I slide out of the bed to retrieve it, but as I bend down to take it I recoil at the blood still caked on me. I survey the bed... It's an absolute mess, blood and dirt staining the white satin sheets. I can feel the gore, the filth caked on every inch of me, as if only now realizing how disgusting I feel, how dirty.
