"This thing gives me the creeps; we should get out of here fast," Kayla said, huddled close to Sheree, her eyes glued to Jackson. She didn't dare glance at the statue looming behind him.
"Ah, women have always drawn the short straw. Once a man leaves them, they spend a lifetime under judgment and whispers," Lily mused, casting a sidelong glance at Kayla on the ground, a flicker of resentment in her eyes.
"Let's press on a bit; you never know, we might stumble upon something worthwhile," Lily suggested, deliberately contradicting Kayla.
Kayla glared at Lily, wishing daggers could shoot from her eyes.
This damn woman was always opposing her.
Jackson nodded, glanced at Kayla on the ground, and said coldly, "Stay put for a bit. We'll be back before you know it."
