Chapter 3: The Clock Is Ticking
Location: Chrono Nexus, Shattered Reality
The shining edges of the c***k encircling Eleanor appeared to tremble and pulse much like how moth wings flutter under a powerful gust. The world shifted its nature as she moved closer to it. The cold swept through her body and felt so intense that it felt like it struck directly at her soul. The past presented itself to her through distant murmurs floating in the breeze while time's vibrating energy sent ripples through her frame.
Alex whispered softly beside her, "That's it" while his voice remained steady yet concealed an urgent message. "The Nexus. The place where all timelines intersect . This location reveals time's dual nature as both all-important and completely insignificant at once.
Eleanor's heartbeat quickened. She discovers that her connection to the rift makes her the critical element needed to either mend or annihilate it. But what does this really mean? How can she maintain control over elements that remain beyond her comprehension? Why her?
"Are you ready?" Alex's voice interrupted her disordered thinking.
Eleanor nodded, but she was unsure. The idea of this time rift was still confusing to her when she began to consider her potential role as its fixer.
"I... She whispered in uncertainty while her voice shook. “What if I fail?”
Alex turned to her, his face softening. You will not fail. You've already stepped into it. We have no choice now. Our combined efforts will enable us to master its control.
She felt a strong urge to speak against it and to express her disagreement but couldn't find the words to release from her throat. She lacked understanding about how to command the power she possessed or utilize the energy that surged through her body. She understood one critical fact well enough - allowing the rift to expand further was not an option. The greatest threats to both the city and her life endanger the entire world.
Alex moved ahead without speaking and stretched his hand toward the c***k. Eleanor followed him, her outstretched hand trembling. When their fingers met the sparkling surface of the c***k, a wave of energy surged through her body, unleashing a thousand thoughts and images in her mind.
Viewpoint:Jessica
Jessica retreated to a distance as Alex and Eleanor got ready to go through the crevice. Her eyes were filled with anxiety. Eleanor remains her best friend even though this world of time anomalies and Chrono Guards is unfamiliar to her. She couldn't let her face this alone. Jessica refused to remain passive when Alex repeatedly asked Eleanor to proceed. Jessica made up her mind to join them regardless of Alex's wishes.
When she approached the fissure she was met by an unseen force that pushed her away as though the c***k disapproved of her presence. She lost her balance and crashed into a streetlamp that stood close by. Suffocating pressure surrounded her while the air remained thick, as though time itself sought to exclude her.
"What happened?" she gasped, her chest filled with panic. "I need to go with them!"
Alex redirected his gaze to lock eyes with her. His eyes displayed a brief spark of frustration. "This is not your fight, Jessica. You don't belong here."
Her tone was sharp as she said, "'Belonging' doesn't matter to me." "Eleanor is my best friend. I refuse to let her face that alone without my support.
But Alex didn't argue. He responded to her by nodding and keeping his expression secret. "Alright. But be careful. The Nexus demands complete readiness from anyone who enters its domain. In this experience you will confront both time and the essence of existence itself.
Despite thinking about these words deeply, Jessica clenched her fists without time to argue further. He stepped back several times and Jessica moved alongside him while her heart raced. Despite the uncertainty of entering unknown territory, she remained steadfast.
Point of view: Eleanor
The rift sent energy waves into Eleanor that overwhelmed her senses and made her vision blur. Time became fragmented around her as she saw flashes of unfamiliar locations together with scenes from her past. A child raced through a field of golden flowers before entering a city full of dark and deserted streets. Unknown faces flitted across Eleanor's vision, appearing and vanishing as fast as they came to view.
She drew a deep breath and extended her hand to ground herself amid the intense flood of memories and visions. Her mental pressure was escalating until it threatened to consume her awareness.
" Eleanor , focus ," Alex commanded above the turmoil and brought her to her senses. "You can control it. Just breathe and focus ."
"Breathe?" The tightness in her chest made her choke as overwhelming feelings nearly suffocated her. What am I supposed to do with my breath when my entire world keeps shifting?
Alex's eyes softened and his voice calmed. "You are stronger than this. Center yourself instead of connecting with the rift. Focus on the present moment. Right now."
The spinning sensation in her head made it difficult for her to calm down while listening to Alex’s voice. She inhaled deeply to allow the surrounding environment to disappear. The whirlpool of her memories gradually came to rest while the energy surrounding her achieved stability. Her intense concentration revealed a stabilizing pulse in the c***k which seemed to respond to her presence as if time itself was listening.
But then – the unexpected happened.
The Nexus became covered with a chilling emptiness which caused the fractures to expand and stretch reality's boundaries. Eleanor's heart beat faster. The risk involves more than merely time. The world exists in this manner while a darker force makes its way through the fractures .
She whispered Alex's name while fear resonated throughout her voice. "I - I feel like we're not alone."
Alex displayed genuine unease as his eyes expanded in reaction to the situation. "This is more than just a c***k. Someone — or something — has been exploiting it."
A shiver traveled up Eleanor's back. "What do you mean? Who else would use it?"
Alex approached her while his face showed intense seriousness. The objective of Chrono Guard extends beyond timeline protection. Our responsibility includes identifying people who manipulate time to further their own interests.
Eleanor found herself unable to breathe as she tried to understand his words. "You mean someone has been manipulating time? Changing things?"
"Worse," Alex said seriously. Their attempts have been focused on obliterating the timeline entirely. Without our interference, the rift would destroy all that we understand.
Viewpoint:Jessica
Jessica noticed that the air grew denser as she neared the c***k and experienced rising pressure with each moment that passed. The fabric of reality begins to unravel. She was unsure about the situation but felt compelled to help. Jessica refused to stand idle while Eleanor faced her impending ordeal alone.
Without hesitation, she extended her hand to touch the c***k's edge.
When her skin made contact, it created a transformation.
As soon as Jessica came into contact with the rift, everything around them began to break apart. A black swirling void appeared as the sky split open. Their feet felt the violent shaking of the ground as time started to contort and fragment into pieces.
A black silhouette broke free from the depths of the c***k to stand against the broken sky.
Eleanor's heart stopped beating. ”
