Chapter 7

I stood up to speak up for myself since no one would.

"I am not staying back" I wanted to say but another elder spoke up before I could.

"She is of no use to us. Keeping her here is a relief of stress to us" he said.

I moved backward and blinked. I might not be of use to them as he said but I do not expect them to say it to a stranger.

"Then you can all get ready to return to your pack," he said and they shrieked in excitement.

I watched every one of them jubilate happily and I sighed. I had thought they would think about me but they did not. He waited for the excitement to die down before speaking up again.

"You can talk to the guards about what you need for your journey back to your pack"

"We won't be needing anything. We will leave right away" one of the elders said.

Taking the elder's words, he nodded and left without glancing at me. I was frustrated but could not do anything about it. My stomach grumbled and I groaned. Amidst a situation like this, I still feel hungry. I sat down at the far end of the hall to think about my life for the past few days.

It was still surprising to me how a few days ago I had thought about celebrating my birthday with my dad but ended up being the reason he is dead. I blinked away the tears threatening to fall. I had promised myself never to cry in front of anyone. I won't be showing off my weakness to anyone anymore.

I remembered those that were sick and wondered if the elders remember them or have decided to leave them behind. I stood up to talk to them but when a guard walked in and asked me to follow him, I decided it was best not to talk to them. No one noticed when I left amidst their jubilation. We left the hall and were soon following a narrow path.

"Where are we going?" I asked and he stopped moving.

"I was asked to take you to where you will be staying" he answered, furrowing his brows.

"Who?"

"The Beta" he answered and I sighed.

I couldn't utter any more words but followed him quietly, to a house. It was behind the packhouse and was painted in similar colors. He stopped by the door and turned to face me.

"This is where you will be staying," he said and I nodded, feeling really, tired. "Is there anything you need? I will be your personal guard"

I sighed. What I want right now is food but telling him that doesn't sound ok to me.

"No, thanks. I think I am fine"

"The maid will bring you some food and also prepare your bath"

I smiled but quickly conceal it. "Thanks" I muttered.

He opened the door for me and I entered. I was surprised at what I saw. It was different from the place I was used to. The walls were painted brown and cream, which matched the floor and couches. There were also flower vases giving the room a fauna and flora look. I walked into the bedroom and loved everything in there. The decoration was similar to the one in the cave house, though a little mature. I wondered if he knew my style naturally or if he had visited the cave. No one has been to the cave house except Bella, my dad, and a few other guards, and none of them is alive now. I decided to lie down on the bed and closed my eyes to get some rest.

I opened my eyes and sat up. Everything in the room looked the same as in the cave house but I still felt different. It took a while before I was able to remember I was no more in the cave house but a house in the mysterious pack territory. Someone walked in. She was a young lady about my age.

"You are awake, ma'am," she said and I furrowed my brows.

"W-who are you please?"

"I am your maid. My name is Bella" she replied and I batted my lashes.

Same name as Bella, just younger.

"Is this a coincidence or fate?" I wondered.

"Are you ok?" She asked, jolting me out of my thought. I sighed.

"I-i am fine. You said you are my maid?"

She nodded. "Yes. I came in a few hours ago but you were asleep"

I groaned slightly. Why did she not wake me up? "Why did you not wake me?"

"You seem to be tired so I left you to have some rest"

"Thanks. I was tired. Why are you here? Is there something you want me to do?"

"No. I just came to see if you are awake. Should I prepare your bath?"

I nodded. "Yes, thanks"

She left and returned a few minutes later.

"I have made your bath. What will you like to eat?"

"Anything" I replied, standing up.

"You don't have any food in mind?"

"No. I will go take my bath" I said and went straight to the bathroom.

I took my time taking my bath before returning to the bedroom. Bella had already set the table and kept some clothes on the bed. I sat down to get dressed and was soon seated, mulching some food. I was so hungry I ate so fast.

"Ma'am" Bella called and I looked up.

She had a smile on her face just like Bella whenever she catches in the act and I feel embarrassed about it. I stared at her in surprise. Why is she acting the same as Bella? Or was I the one exaggerating things?

"Y-you're here" I cooed, feeling a bit embarrassed for eating too fast and being caught in the act. "When did you get in?" I asked

I did not know when she walked in because I was busy with my food. I dropped the spoon and smiled at her.

"I just got in. Is there anything you want?" She asked.

"No. you can..." I remembered I needed to know if my pack members left already. "Bella, can you do something for me?"

She nodded. "Of course, I can"

"There is a hall just a few distances away from here. You know it right?"

"Yes, I do"

"There are some pack members from a faraway pack in there. I just want to know if they left already"

"The moonlight pack?"

I nodded at first but furrowed my brows. How did she know the pack's name?

"Yes. How did you know their name?"

"I heard two guards talking about them. You must be the pack member given away in exchange for peace"

I batted my lashes. How did she know that?

"D-did the guards say that?"

She nodded. "Yes. But are you the one?". I glared at her and she chuckled nervously. "I am so sorry ma'am I did not mean it that way"

I sighed. "Do you know if they left already?"

She nodded. "Yes. I heard they left an hour ago"

"A-an hour ago?". She nodded. "Everyone of them?"

She nodded. Yes"

"What about the injured ones?"

"I think they left with every one of them"

I felt my eyes becoming teary. So the pack members left, leaving me in a pack that I know nothing of. How were they able to leave with all the injured ones? I felt a few drops of tears fall down my eyes and I stood up. I couldn't hold back the tears and did not want Bella to see me cry. I was becoming more emotional than I had wanted.

"Bella, you can leave now"

"Are you ok?" She asked and I nodded.

"Yes, I am"

It was a sunny day and the sun was shining so brightly. I walked barefoot on the seashore, enjoying the cold breeze. I could hear the sound of children playing so happily and the sound of the waves too. I stood, watching them play.

"Val?" I heard someone call.

The voice sounded so similar to Bella's voice.

I turned to see who had called me but I did not see anyone, just the little children playing. I turned and took a few steps but stopped when I heard the same voice call my name again. I became a bit scared.

"W-who is that?" I cooed and turned. "B-Bella?" I called when I saw her a distance away. "B-Bella?" I ran towards her. "B-Bella?"

I got closer to her and made to touch her but felt someone touch me.

"Ma'am?" I heard and opened my eyes. It was Bella calling me. "Are you ok?" She asked looking worried.

"I-i'm fine" I replied, stuttering slightly.

"You shouted my name from your sleep. Are you sure you are ok?"

I sat up. "Did I?"

"Yes. I was worried you might be having a bad dream. Are you..."

"I am fine. Just get me a glass of water" I said and she nodded.

After Bella left, I stood up and walked to the wardrobe. Did I dream of Bella and had called out her name? I yawned slightly. I can not remember when I slept last night and still feels sleepy right now.

I saw the handkerchief knitted by Bella for me as a birthday gift. I picked it up and smiled. She made it when I was fifteen and I have been going about with it. That was also the only thing I was able to keep. I sniffed it and sighed. I miss her so much and wished she was alive.

"Here is the water," Bella said and I turned to take the water from her.

"Thanks" I muttered.

I drank from the glass of water and handed the cup over to her.

"Should I prepare your bath?" She asked.

I furrowed my brows. "Is it morning already?"

"Yes. It's past nine already"

"Is there something I need to do?". She furrowed her brows. "I mean the Beta. Is there anything he will like me to do this morning?"

She stared at me. "The Beta? Do you know him?"

I nodded. "I have met him once. He was the one who asked the guard to bring me here". She muttered an oh. "Did he send anyone?"

"No. He did not"

"The guard outside did not say anything?"

"You mean Andrew?"

"Is that his name?"

She nodded. "Yes. Your personal guard right? He did not say anything about you"

"Then can I sleep for a while?"

"You should. You did not sleep early last night and I was worried you might fall sick"

"I won't fall sick. You should not worry much about me"

She sighed. "Then I will let you get some rest. You can call me when you need anything. I will be in the living room" she said.

After she left, I returned to bed to sleep. Just when I thought I was drifting into dreamland, I heard a sound and opened my eyes quickly. Bella was standing by the bedside.

"Ma'am, you're awake?"

"What is going on?"

"Sorry to disturb you. The Alpha asked that they change some furniture in the living room"

I furrowed my brows. The Alpha? Some furniture? For what? "Change some furniture? Why?"

She moved closer to me, I guess to whisper.

"You are going to be his mistress" she whispered to me and I batter my lashes.

"M-mistress?"

She nodded. She looks happy and I wondered if it was a good thing being the mysterious Alpha's mistress. I stared at her.

"Why will he want me to be his mistress?"

She shrugged. "I don't know. No one seems to know either"

I rolled my eyes. That seems so strange. I do not know who the Alpha is, and I am sure he does not know me either. Why would he want to take me as a mistress? I thought the Beta was the one who asked the guard to bring me here. Did he do that because the Alpha asked him to? I gestured to Bella to sit on the bed with me and she did. I needed to ask her some questions and I do not want anyone to hear them.

"What does your Alpha look like?"

She batted her lashes. "Y-you want to know what our Alpha looks like?"

She looked worried and scared at the same time.

"Is there something wrong?"

"N-no one dares to talk about the Alpha that way" she whispered.

Her voice was so low I had to strain my ears to get every word she said.

"No one?"

She nodded. "No one has seen him before. No one dares to go close to him except his Beta"

I rolled my eyes. What sort of an Alpha is he?

"Why can't you go close to him?"

"Rumor had it that he is ruthless. Everyone fears and prays they do not get involved with him"

I widened my eyes. If he is ruthless, why does she look happy when she was telling me I was going to be his mistress? Isn't that a call for my death?

I folded my arms. "Why do you sound so happy when you were telling me I was going to be his mistress but so scared when you talk about him?"

"Rumor had it that he is the most handsome man in fire pack. And as his mate or mistress, you get to see him and also get all the luxury you desire"

"Does he have a mate?"

She nodded. "Yes"

I sighed. That is the reason why I am going to be a mistress. "It's better than not having a wolf and a mate," I thought.

"They also said he is a Lycan-demon hybrid"

I batted my lashes. Did she just say a demon? I remembered Bella telling me about demons existing.

"Do demons exist?"

She nodded, her eyes brightening up. "Yes. I have met a few of them"

My eyes brightened up. "Are you for real? What do they look like?"

She smiled. "They are so cute with beautiful emerald green eyes. Some had blue eyes. Their hair is mostly red"

I chuckled. They are just like Bella had described them. I smiled wishing I was the one who met them.

"How did you meet them?"

"I had followed the Alpha's mother to the demons' kingdom when I was fifteen with my mom. She was worried about the Alpha and had gone there to bring him back to the packhouse. My mom was worried I will wander off on my own and asked the Queen to let me go with them"

I rested. "You must be lucky". She is indeed lucky. "But if she followed the Queen to the demons' kingdom because of the Alpha as she said, then she should know what he looks like," I thought and sat up quickly. "Were you able to see his face? I mean the Alpha"

"No. He had a mask on and he did not return with us, cause he wandered away before we knew it and we had to return without him"

"He wore a mask?". She nodded and I blinked. "What if he is the one who came to the hall to ask for me as an exchange?" I thought. "Does he still wears a mask?"

"No one has seen him for a while now. The Beta is the one who wears a mask now. Rumor had it that the Alpha had returned to the demons' kingdom and might not be returning anytime soon"

I sighed. I had thought for once that he could be, but I guess I thought it wrongly. "Did..."

"Ma'am I think we should stop talking about him now. I heard he can hear every conversation. He appears to those who talk about him and kill them" she said and I shivered in fright.

It was the second day of my stay here and I am yet to meet the Alpha or his Beta. All I do was read books, sleep, eat and reread the books. At some points, I get really afraid of seeing the alpha because of the story Bella told me, but soon consider it just a rumor, no one has proven it to be true. I dropped the last book back to the shelf and sighed. I was becoming tired, as it was more boring than it used to be when I was in the cave. At least I had my dad and Bella to talk to. I was also able to go out on my horse until I got accused wrongly and was banished from going out. Despite having to stay indoors In the cave, I still love it more than I love it here.

I miss my horse and hoped she is doing well on her one. I stared at the books, knowing there was nothing I can do except read them again. I decided to reread the books. I picked up a different book and turned to go and sit on the bed when Bella rushed in. She was panting so hard, that I became worried and had to rush towards her.

"Are you ok?"

She sucked in some air. "T-the t-the alpha is heading this way," she said and I felt my legs wobble in fear.

Am I finally going to meet him today?!
