Chapter 1
"I'm pregnant." Mia said, her voice trembling. She knew that she couldn't keep the truth from him, especially now that she had news that would change everything.  There was a long pause at the other end of the line. "What?" Liam finally said. "Look, Sandra or whatever you call yourself that's impossible. We used protection." "It's Mia." She replied. "I know we did, but sometimes things happen." Liam's voice turned cold. "This is just a ploy, isn't it? You're trying to trap me into giving you money. Well, it's not going to work. I know all about your type." "I'm not trying to collect money from you," Mia said with sincerity. "I'm not that kind of person. I understand that this is a difficult situation for you, but please don't assume the worst of me." She could sense the disbelief in Liam's voice as he accused her of being a golddigger. Her heart sank. She had known that this was a possibility, but she had hoped that Liam would believe her.  "Liam, I'm not trying to trap you. I didn't plan for this to happen. But it has, and we need to figure out what to do next." Liam scoffed. "What do you expect me to think? We used protection, and now you're telling me you're pregnant. It's not exactly a coincidence." Liam's thoughts went back to what had happened that night:  The night started like any other for him, with a high-stakes poker game in a swanky Las Vegas casino. He was on a winning streak and feeling invincible, so when Mia arrived at his table to take his drink order, he couldn't resist flirting with her. Mia was unlike any woman he had ever met. She was beautiful, confident, and unafraid to challenge him. They bantered back and forth throughout the evening, each trying to one-up the other. As the night wore on, and the alcohol flowed freely, the tension between them grew. Before they knew it, they were on the dance floor, lost in the music and the heat of the moment. One thing led to another, and they found themselves back in Liam's suite at the hotel, unable to keep their hands off each other. As soon as they entered the room, he pulled her into a deep and passionate kiss, his hands roaming over her body. She moaned softly, her body responding to his touch.  He pressed his lips against hers, tasting her sweetness as he deepened the kiss. She moaned as her hands explored his muscular chest, slipping under his shirt. He laid her down on the bed, and as his hands trailed down her body he slowly undressed her, savouring every inch of her skin as he did so. She writhed under his touch, her moans filling the room. She arched her back as he kissed his way down her stomach, his tongue tracing circles around her belly button. She was growing wet with anticipation as he moved lower, teasing her inner thighs with his lips. Finally, he reached her core, and she gasped as his tongue flicked over her c**t. He was an expert, his movements sending waves of pleasure through her body. She gripped the sheets tightly as he brought her to the brink of o****m, then stopped just before she could tip over the edge. They spent the night lost in each other, savouring every moment of passion and desire, until they finally fell asleep in each other's arms. The next morning, as he stumbled out of bed he had immediately regretted his decision to drink himself into oblivion the night before. "I know it seems that way, but accidents happen," Mia said, bringing him back to reality and trying to reason with him. "I didn't plan this, Liam. I never wanted to be in this situation, but now that I am, you need to know." Liam's eyes widened with shock as he asked, " You were supposed to be on pills. Even if you weren't, you should have at least taken some the next day. Why didn't you take some morning-after pills?" Mia's shoulders slumped as she muttered, "I...I forgot." Liam's jaw tightened as he pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to control his frustration. "You forgot? How could you forget something like that and you say this isn't a coincidence?" Tears welled up in Mia's eyes as she whispered, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to forget. I just got caught up in the moment, and I didn't think about it." "Stop with the lies," Liam replied, his tone harsh. "You had intentionally forgotten to take your birth control pills." "That's not true, Liam," she said firmly, her voice trembling with emotion. "I didn't forget on purpose. I just got caught up in the moment, and I didn't realise it until it was too late." Liam shook his head, clearly not convinced. "I don't believe you," he said, his voice laced with anger. "I think you knew exactly what you were doing. You wanted to trap me with a baby, didn't you?" Mia's eyes widened in shock. "What? No! That's not true at all. How could you even think that?" "You know exactly how," Liam snapped. "You finally found someone that could take you out of your miserable life and you're trying to trap me with a baby, but I won't let you do it." Tears streamed down her face as she listened to Liam's accusations. She had never felt so betrayed in her life.  "You're just like all the other gold diggers out there," he spat. "You think you can just use your body to get what you want from me? Well, it's not going to work." Mia felt a wave of anger and frustration wash over her. "I'm not a gold digger," she shouted amidst a teary face.  "I don't believe you," Liam said. "I'm going to need proof that this child is mine." "What kind of proof?" Mia asked, her voice shaking. "I don't know," Liam said. "A paternity test, maybe. But don't expect me to just take your word for it." Mia felt like she had been punched in the gut. Liam's reaction was worse than she had imagined. He had nothing to lose even if he was the father of her child, but she had hoped that he would be more supportive. "I understand," Mia said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I'll do whatever it takes to prove that this child is yours. But please, Liam, don't turn your back on me now. I need you more than ever." There was another long pause at the other end of the line and she held her breath, waiting for Liam's response. "Fine," Liam finally said. "A paternity test will only be done when the baby is born. I'll think of something, but don't expect me to be happy about this." Mia nodded, relieved that Liam was at least willing to entertain the idea that the child could be his. "Thank you, Liam. I appreciate your help." "Don't thank me yet," Liam said, his tone icy. "This is a serious matter, and I won't let anyone take advantage of me. If this child is mine, I'd do the right thing. But if not, I won't hesitate to take legal action." Mia's heart sank at Liam's words. She had hoped that he would be more understanding, but she knew that he had a lot at stake. "I understand," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Good," Liam said, his voice softening slightly. "But until then, don't expect me to act like everything's okay between us." This was just the beginning. She had a long road ahead of her, and she wasn't sure if she was ready for it. But one thing was certain – she was going to do everything in her power to make sure that Liam took responsibility for his child. The next day, Mia got a call from Liam. As she answered the call she could sense his serious expression.  "Look Mia, I need to protect my name and status. Since there's a possibility that the child is mine, I'm willing to offer you a secret marriage until after the baby is born and we get the paternity test results. This will help protect my reputation and your financial stability. After all, you'll need financial support during your pregnancy." Mia was taken aback. "A secret marriage?" she repeated, disbelief clear in her voice. Liam nodded. "Yes, it's the best solution for both of us. You'll have financial security, and I'll have the assurance that my reputation won't be tarnished by any scandal. Once the baby is born, and we have the paternity test results, we can decide what to do next." Mia was hesitant. "I don't know if I can agree to that, Liam. I don't want to deceive anyone or live a lie." Liam replied from the other end. "I am not negotiating with you. It's either you accept it or I'm out of this. This is the best way to protect yourself and that child. I'll make sure you're well taken care of, and we can keep the marriage a secret until we know for sure if I'm the father." Mia thought about it for a moment. Liam was right. She would need financial support during her pregnancy, and this seemed like the best way to ensure that her child was taken care of. "Okay," she finally said, "I'll do it." There was a pause before he replied "Good. I'll have my lawyers draw up the contract, and we can get married as soon as possible." Mia couldn't believe what just happened. Her life had taken an unexpected turn, and she had no idea what the future held. But she was determined to do whatever it took to protect her child, even if it meant entering into a secret contract marriage with a man she hardly knew. Two days later, she found herself in a lawyer's office, signing the marriage contract with Liam. It was a surreal experience, but she knew that she had made the right decision.  After signing the papers, Liam pulled her aside. "Remember, Mia, this is a secret. No one can know about our marriage, especially not my fiancée. She would never understand, and it would ruin everything." Mia nodded, knowing the seriousness of the situation. "I understand, Liam. I'll keep our marriage a secret." "Good," Liam said. "I'll make sure that you're well taken care of. I cannot promise I'll be there for you every step of the way. But be rest assured you won't lack anything." Mia was touched by his words, but she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. She knew that this marriage was only a contract, a way to protect their reputations and their child. She wondered if Liam would ever see her as anything more than a means to an end. As they left the lawyer's office, he handed her a set of keys. "This is the key to your new apartment. I've made sure that everything you need is there, and I've hired a personal assistant to help you with anything you need during your pregnancy." She took the keys, feeling overwhelmed by his generosity. "Thank you, Liam. This is all so much." "I have work to do. A driver will come take you to your new apartment " And with that, he left, leaving Mia to wonder what the future held for them and that of her unborn child. A few days later, Liam visited her in her new apartment. He checked up on her and made sure that she was comfortable. However, before he left, he issued a stern warning. "Mia, I want you to know that I take this marriage and the paternity test very seriously. If I find out that you've been lying to me or that I'm not the father of the child, I will not hesitate to deal with you." Mia was taken aback by his harsh words. She had never thought of scamming him, but the warning made her feel uneasy. "Liam, I would never lie about something like this," Mia said, trying to defend herself. "I hope not," Liam said, his voice icy. "Because if I find out that you have, there will be consequences." Mia felt a shiver run down her spine. Liam's words were not just a warning, but a threat. She knew that she needed to tread carefully from then on. As he left, she couldn't help but wonder how she had gotten herself into this situation. She knew that this marriage was just a temporary solution to a much bigger problem.  She had to find a way out of it once the paternity test results were out. But for now, she had to play her role as Liam's secret wife and focus on taking care of herself and her unborn child. Days later, Mia received an anonymous message on her phone, requesting a meeting at a nearby café. The message was cryptic, but she had a feeling that it was important. She decided to ignore the message and focus on what was happening in her life and how to adjust to her new status. Over the next few days, while she was still trying to process all that had been happening, she received another message from an anonymous number. This time, the message was even more ominous. "You have one last chance to meet me, Mia. Failure to do so will result in even bigger consequences. You know what's at stake. Meet me at the café on Fifth and Main, tomorrow at noon."
