Darius, the true Alpha with the power to control the Lupus Opal, has lived a life bound by the weight of his abilities—the power to both create and destroy. After escaping the torture of a cruel scientist, Kline, and the loss of his pack, Darius runs far away, leaving behind his past. Three years later, tormented by the curse of his powers, he returns with one goal: to lose his wolf form and become human. Desperate for help, he turns to Dr. Genevieve, the woman who once aided his escape, and forces her to help him rid himself of the opal’s power. As they search for a way to break the curse, their bond grows, and passion ignites between them. But when Kline finds Darius again, he’s human, and the hunt for power is over.

Captured
Pain was the first thing I noticed when I woke up. It seared through my body like wildfire, tearing through muscle and bone. My wrists were bound by heavy steel shackles, their edges biting into my skin with cruel precision. The room smelled of antiseptic and blood—my blood. My head pounded as I tried to remember how I had ended up here. A faint buzzing sound filled the air, accompanied by the rhythmic beeping of machines. The fluorescent lights above were blindingly bright, illuminating every sterile corner of the laboratory. My vision blurred, but I could make out the outline of a man standing a few feet away, scribbling notes on a clipboard. He wore a white lab coat, his glasses reflecting the harsh light. “You’re awake,” the man said, his voice clinical and devoid of emotion. “Good. I was beginning to think you’d succumb to the sedatives.” I growled low in my throat, a guttural sound that echoed in the small room. My instincts screamed at me to shift, to let the wolf inside me take control and rip this man apart, but something was wrong. I couldn’t feel the wolf. My connection to it was… severed. Panic surged through me, cold and unrelenting. “Ah, you’ve noticed,” the man said with a smile that sent chills down my spine. “The sedative cocktail we’ve developed is quite effective. You won’t be shifting anytime soon. Makes things easier for both of us, don’t you think?” He stepped closer, and I could see the madness in his eyes—a glint of unrestrained curiosity and cruelty. This wasn’t just a scientist; this was a monster in human skin. “Where am I?” I rasped, my throat dry and raw. “The Facility,” he replied, as if that explained everything. He crouched to meet my eyes, his gaze probing, analyzing. “You’re quite the specimen, you know. Strong, resilient. Perfect for my research.” I clenched my fists, the chains rattling with the motion. “What do you want?” “What I want,” he said, standing again, “is to understand. To unlock the secrets of your kind. Werewolves are fascinating creatures, aren’t they? Half-human, half-beast. So much power, yet so vulnerable when stripped of it.” I pulled at the chains, testing their strength. They didn’t budge. “Save your energy,” he said, smirking. “Those restraints are reinforced with silver alloy. You’re not going anywhere.” Silver. The word sent another wave of panic through me. It explained the burning sensation in my wrists, the weakness in my limbs. I was trapped, and this man—this scientist—was going to dissect me like a lab rat. “You won’t get away with this,” I snarled, baring my teeth. “My pack will come for me.” “Ah, yes, the pack,” he mused, pacing the room. “That’s exactly what I’m counting on. You see, you’re not just a test subject. You’re bait.” I froze. “They’ll come for you,” he continued, “and when they do, I’ll have them too. Imagine the breakthroughs I could achieve with an entire pack to study. A genetic goldmine.” “You’re insane,” I spat. He laughed, a hollow, chilling sound. “Insane? Perhaps. But genius and insanity often go hand in hand, don’t they?” Before I could respond, the door to the room slid open, and another figure entered. This one was younger, maybe in his late twenties, with a hesitant expression and a tray of syringes in his hands. “Dr. Kline,” the younger man said nervously, “the next round of tests is ready.” “Excellent,” Kline replied, his grin widening. He turned back to me. “This will hurt, I’m afraid. But pain is a necessary part of progress.” The younger man approached, avoiding my gaze as he prepared the syringe. I strained against the chains, every fiber of my being screaming at me to fight. But the silver and sedatives had done their job; I was too weak to resist. The needle pierced my arm, and a fiery liquid coursed through my veins. I roared in agony, the sound raw and animalistic. My vision blurred again, this time from tears I refused to let fall. “What… are you… doing to me?” I managed to choke out. “Enhancing your sensitivity to pain,” Kline said matter-of-factly. “It makes the experiments more informative.” The younger man flinched at his words, but he said nothing. Kline’s gaze flicked to him, and he sighed. “You’re dismissed, Roberts. Leave the tray.” Roberts hesitated but obeyed, setting the tray on a nearby table before scurrying out of the room. I filed his reaction away in my mind. He might be a weakness, someone I could exploit if the opportunity arose. Kline turned his attention back to me, picking up another syringe. “Now, let’s see how far we can push you.” The next few hours were a blur of agony. Kline injected me with various substances, each one more painful than the last. He recorded my reactions with meticulous detail, his expression one of detached fascination. I didn’t know how much more I could take. My body screamed for relief, for escape. But then, something changed. A faint sound reached my ears—an alarm blaring in the distance. Kline frowned, his focus momentarily broken. “What’s going on?” he muttered, stepping toward the door. The alarm grew louder, and I caught the sound of hurried footsteps and shouting. Something was happening. Something big. “Stay here,” Kline ordered, as if I had a choice. He grabbed his clipboard and exited the room, leaving me alone for the first time since I’d woken up. I scanned the room, my mind racing. The tray Roberts had left was still there, its contents glinting under the harsh lights. Among the syringes was a scalpel. My heart raced as I reached for it, the chains cutting into my wrists as I strained against them. The scalpel’s handle brushed my fingertips, but it wasn’t enough. Gritting my teeth, I pulled harder, ignoring the pain. Finally, I managed to hook the scalpel with my pinky and drag it closer. With trembling hands, I gripped the scalpel and began sawing at the leather strap that bound my right wrist to the chain. It was slow, grueling work, but adrenaline fueled my determination. The strap gave way, and my hand was free. I quickly worked on the other wrist, glancing at the door every few seconds. The commotion outside grew louder—gunfire, screams. Whatever was happening, it was my chance to escape. As soon as both hands were free, I ripped the IV from my arm and stumbled to my feet. My legs wobbled beneath me, weakened from the sedatives, but I forced them to move. I grabbed the scalpel, my only weapon, and crept toward the door. Peering into the hallway, I saw chaos. Guards ran past, their weapons drawn, while smoke billowed from the far end of the corridor. Explosions rocked the building, making the walls tremble. I didn’t know who or what had caused the distraction, but I wasn’t about to waste it. Keeping low, I slipped out of the room and into the chaos. The wolf inside me was still distant, unreachable, but I felt its presence stir faintly. I would survive. I would escape. And when I did, I would make Kline pay for every second of pain he had inflicted. For now, though, survival was all that mattered.
