CHAPTER 1- NOT SO FIRST MEETING KIMBERLY’S POV She was very late, not the best first impression to make on her new boss—especially as his secretary—as someone with whom she worked closely. "He is in." The receptionist said to her as soon as she walked up to her. She sighed as she began to run to the elevator. "Good morning." She would wave randomly at a colleague or another. She finally made it to the elevator and shook her head, being the CEO's secretary or private assistant made her popular among all the staff. For her goodness and strictness. When she got to the CEO's door, she muttered a little prayer and hoped he was as nice as the retired one. "Come in." Someone muttered from inside the office when she knocked. "Good morning, sir. My name is Kimberly Orton, your new secretary. Kimberly said. "Is this the policy here; you resume by 9:00 am?" He replied. The vast high-tech computer in front of him deterred her from being able to see his face. Everything in the CEO's office had been changed since the previous one's retirement. "It won't happen again, sir. I promise." Kimberly was certain it would happen again. He finally stood up. "Good. You will work here as my personal assistant; there is a new vacancy for the secretary." "But…" She acted like the personal assistant, anyway. He raised an eyebrow. "But what?" The reply got stuck in Kimberly's throat when she saw the person staring back at her. She opened her mouth and closed it a couple of times like a fish. Oh, no! Oh, God, no! "You?" She whispered. He stood straight, but his attention was attuned to the see-through display computer in front of him. "Do I know you?" Surely he did not know me, right? He glanced up when he realized Kimberly was silent. "Yes?" "Oh… no, no. Don't mind me, my mind is elsewhere." Kimberly replied; she quickly regretted it. Her boss scowled with disdain and walked up to her. "If you want to retain your job, Miss Orton, you will be a good employee here! My first impression of you is quite terrible, and you will have to work hard to make me see otherwise." Our not-so-first impression, even though I have the same opinion as you about how terrible our first encounters always were. Well, all their encounters. "Noted, Sir." She replied. "Good." He walked slowly back to his work, then said. "Read my schedule for today for me." she Kimberly decided to keep her panic and thoughts to herself until she is alone-or for further notice. "Of course, sir." I opened my tablet; it was already on his schedule. I made sure it was scanty for the first day. "You have a meeting with all employees of the headquarters today at 10 am, in fifty minutes time. Then you have a meeting with all executives from all branches at 12 p.m., that's all." Kimberly said, pleased with herself. "Is there any actual work to finish today?" He asked. "Pardon?" Kimberly asked "Surely, you are not deaf. I asked if I was here to play today." Unsure of herself and shocked by how rude he was she wasn't very surprised at that point she muttered a tiny. "No." Then begin to move better work to my schedule now. "Of course, sir." Kimberly nodded, irritation fighting in her. She wanted to reach out and slap him hard, but she managed to rein it in. "Is that all, sir?" She asked. "No. You will attend the employees' meeting in my stead; you will address all the employees and tell them exactly what I told you." He replied. Kimberly's eyes widened. "Sir, trust me, please. I really can't stand a crowd, let alone address one." He stopped what he was doing and looked at her like he was trying to read her; he sighed and deadpanered. "Then you have to work on that now." "This is your first employee meeting, sir. Are you sure you don't want to go?" "Are you questioning me?" He asked, his irritation finally had sipped into his voice. Are you God? "Of course not, sir. I will try my best." "Do that. And get me the accounts for the past three years; I need to check it out this morning." "Of course, sir," she replied. "And please get rid of the sir; are you British?" He snapped. "I'm not, sir, but the previous CEO is one." Kimberly didn't know where she invented her patience from, even though she was infuriated. Oh, did I say that again? "Oh, I mean Mr. Harris." Kimberly corrected herself. Mr. Jamie Harris! How come that name didn't sound very familiar to me? I would have prepared if I knew it was him. "Good. Get everything I said you should get done and come back to share your opinion about things; your opinion is paramount in some of the projects." He only just rejected one two seconds ago. "Of course, sir." Kimberly nodded before turning around to work at the door. "Did I tell you you could leave?" He said, but his attention was firmly on his work. Was that not dismissal enough? Talk, Kim, or you will have to end up taking this nonsense for a long time. "Your words were dismissal enough, sir... Mr Harris. Was I supposed to wait for you to blow the whistle?" Kimberly's voice was a tad away from being snappish, and it was all thanks to her willpower. He turned around from his computer, folded his hands in front of his chest, and stared at her for a long time. Kimberly began to feel self conscious. God! Why did I talk? Does that mean I'm about to lose my job? "That's correct. I don't want a personal assistant that can be pushed around; we are going to be putting this fierceness to work a couple of times a week." "What? What just happened?" She asked herself under her breath. "Now, you can go." He waved her off and continued his work. Kimberly walked away with an overthinking head and a confused mind. What does that mean now?
