CHAPTER 3- HER SECRET KIMBERLY’S POV "JJ, I'm here!" Kimberly shouted, toeing her shoes off her feet. "At least, you say 'hi' to everyone first." Derrick screamed back. "Hi everyone," I replied. I could hear JJ and Lola somewhere in the house. Derrick shouted. "JJ, Lola! Kimberly is here." By then Kimberly had already entered the living room. "Where is my baby?!!" Then did he run out with a grilled chicken in his hand, his mouth is stained with sauce. "Mummy!!!!" He screamed before throwing himself into the air for his mother to catch. They ended up both crashing on the floor, from the force. "JJ! You are not two years old again." Kimberly grumbled as she raised her son to his feet before she dragged herself up. The boy giggled with amusement as he watched his mother dust of—at least tried—the sauce all over her. Kimberly glared at Lola, who turned to her husband to give him the I told you so-glare. "He is so sleeping over here today!" Kimberly announced. "Because there's no way I'm handling him alone." "I told him not to give him sweets." Lola pointed at her husband. Kimberly turned her glare to Derrick. He raised his hand with a wide eye. "You know I can't refuse such a cute boy." Kimberly decided she wouldn't overreact. Lola and Derrick have been trying to get a baby to no avail. Derrick had quickly jumped on the chance to babysit JJ when Kimberly got her job. "Guess what, Mummy?" He didn't wait for her to guess before he proceeded with his information. "Derrick painted a picture for me; it's magical." "Really?" Kimberly asked. It wasn't the first time anyway. "Yes, it shows me when you turn it one way, but when you turn it the other way, it's you!" JJ ran up the stairs to grab his painting; Kimberly admitted it was a priceless piece. "Wow." She looked at Derrick with a grateful smile; he had rejected anything that had to do with her thanking him for his help. He said he took her as his sister. "Thanks, Derrick. Take care of your sugar high godson, while I speak to your wife." Lola looked up from her phone. "Uhhh... I smell gist. Come, let's go." Derrick shook his head. "You mean gossip. Come with me, Buddy. They left us on our own now." He carried JJ out of the living room, Kimberly quickly sat next to her friend. Lola's eyes was wide with anticipation. "So?" she asked. Kimberly sighed. "I saw Jamie today." Kimberly's eyes knitted in confusion. "Of course you saw Jamie. Was he not the one, Derrick? Oh... Oh." The moment she realised. "Yes. Oh!" She sighed and massaged her hair a little. "What am I going to do now?" "I really don't know. He will be pissed." Lola replied. Kimberly scoffed and said under breath. "Under statement of the century." "So, what now?" Lola asked. "I'm not going to tell him anything." Kimberly replied. "You are not serious about that? This thing you are doing is enough to break my marriage, you know. He is Derrick's best friend." "And you are my best friend; Derrick is my brother. He is the outsider here, a very rude one too. And that's why we didn't tell his best friend, Derrick is a good person, and naturally he would want to do the right thing." She explained. "Oh, so you know that's the right thing, right?" Lola asked with a raised eyebrow. "To Derrick, I mean. Imagine me telling him now and he decides to take JJ from me, what happens next?" Kimberly asked. "You know this is not right? I can't imagine doing that to Derrick; he would be very hurt." Lola said. "Girl, Derrick is someone that you love, and he returns that love in folds; of course you can't trust compared to Derrick and Jamie." Kimberly said. Lola shrugged. "So where did you meet him? Did you fight again? Oh, you didn't say hello?" "Oh, I didn't tell you." Kimberly's expression had deflated. "He is my new boss." "Oh, this is not good. It is not good at all. You have no excuse now, Kim." "Why do you like Jamie? You could have just married him instead. That man is an humongous a-hole, and I mean it." "Of course, she only likes my friend. Why do you hate him so much, anyway?" This time it was Derrick that replied. "Since when have you been here?" Kimberly asked. "I just got here; don't worry, I didn't eavesdrop on your ladies' gossip. Why is Jamie in your conversation again?" He asked just as JJ bumped into him. "I'm sorry, Uncle Derrick; I was just excited. Mummy, do you know that Uncle Derrick is teaching how to draw and paint? I bet you don't know." Of course Kimberly knew. Derrick had taken permission from her before he began to teach him. It was Lola that replied. "Oh... we didn't know." She said it in the most sarcastic way that JJ burst into a contagious laughter, making all of them laugh also. "So, did you say thank you to Uncle Derrick?" "Yes, I did! Can I bake cookies for Uncle Derrick and Aunty Lola tomorrow?" He asked with a big smile and his extra-large eyes. Kimberly thought about how handsome Jamie looked in glasses when he called her to audit the accounts of the company. Kimberly sighed. They are too alike. All I have to do is make sure they never meet, and everything will work out great. Right? "Of course, Baby. You can bake cookies for them." She replied. Lola's eyes were all 'tell him!' but Kimberly wasn't sure she could do that. "Go and grab your bag and lunch box, so that you can say Bye to Aunty Lola and Uncle Derrick." While JJ was saying 'Hello' to everything and everyone not going to his house with him, Kimberly checked her messages. There was a single new one, and it says. "We need money for the next chemotherapy. And can you bring JJ on your next visit? Thank you."
