“When you say that,” Ross said to him, “just how closely do you scrutinise your passengers passport photos? I bet it's a quick look and nothing more.”

“Well, yes, you're right Inspector Ross. And anyway, they both sounded…French, I suppose. That sounds pretty stupid doesn't it?”
“Not at all. You're British and they were French, as you thought, according to their passports.”

“So, when they showed up with valid tickets, you would have no reason to suspect they were impostors. Do you see what I mean? As you're not a native French speaker, it would have been extremely unlikely you'd have noticed the fact they were a pair of doppelgangers.”
