When I walked out of Moon Shade’s prison, I still didn’t even know what crime I was supposed to have committed.

A black SUV idled outside the iron gate. Charles stepped out. He had once been my fiancé; now he looked like he was here to pick up trouble. “Get in.”

The second I sat on the seat; his phone lit up. On the screen, a single name popped up—Sophia.

The girl who had taken everything that used to be mine.

I stayed silent, watching the snow outside the window. Three years ago, every bit of tenderness in this world embraced me; two years later, when I finally woke up, they were suddenly all orbiting around Sophia, calling her “so pitiful,” calling me “too extreme,” saying prison would help me calm down.

I honestly believed I was still the one they cared about most—until the night I typed my own birthday into the keypad and the front door stayed locked. When I entered Sophia’s birthday instead, the door clicked open instantly.

That was the moment I understood:

It wasn’t that I had done something wrong. I had been replaced.

The night the fire roared to life, I lay on the guest‑room bed and watched the flames crawl up the walls.

Moon Shade thought it had lost “Karen.” The whole Pack knelt in the ashes, screaming my name and sobbing—never realizing the corpse they were mourning wasn’t mine.

Three years later, I had a new name in a new country, standing center stage in front of thousands of people.

Someone in the audience shouted, “Karen, you came back, didn’t you?”

I just smiled.

I came back—but I’m no longer the girl they used to know.

Chapter 1
The wind in the northern sector sliced across my face like a knife, cold enough to cut a person open. The guard handed me a paper bag. Inside were the gray clothes they’d issued me before I got out, and a broken necklace. “Your sentence is over. You can leave now.” I nodded and reached out to take it. My hands were so pale from the cold they almost looked bloodless. Two years ago, they had been smooth and clean. Now there were all rough calluses. I still had no idea what crime I’d committed. An engine rumbled low. A black SUV rolled to a stop outside the iron gate. The door opened and a familiar scent hit me head‑on. Ember Hide Pack’s Alpha, Charles—my ex‑fiancé. He held out his hand, voice flat. “Get in.” I sidestepped his hand and opened the door myself, climbing in without touching him. The moment the door shut, the world went quiet, leaving only the low hum of the engine. Charles got into the driver’s seat, fingers wrapped around the steering wheel, his breathing barely audible. “I’m the only one who came to pick you up today.” He paused. “Your parents, Henry and Lisa, and your brother Kane all went to Sophia’s concert.” I turned my head, staring out the window. “And you?” “What?” He frowned. I looked back at him, studying the sharp line of his profile. “Why didn’t you go? Don’t you all love her?” The air froze in an instant. Charles’s voice dropped. “The person we care about most has always been you. But you went too far with Sophia, and we had no choice but to find a way to make you calm down.” I laughed once. It sounded so calm it made the whole car feel even colder. Once upon a time, they really did love me. I was the daughter of Moon Shade Pack’s Alpha; everyone said I was an Omega blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. Until the accident. I was in a coma for two years. Back then, they came to the hospital every day, holding my hand, saying they were waiting for me to wake up. But later, I started hearing another name—Sophia. They said Sophia reminded them of who I used to be. So, they kept her, used her to fill the blank I might never wake up to reclaim. The day I finally opened my eyes, they cried and hugged me, calling it a miracle. I thought the nightmare was finally over, but they wouldn’t send her away. My mother, Lisa, cried as she said, “Sophia has been through so much. Let her stay.” I agreed. Back then I was still naive enough to think a little kindness could win trust. But that girl started spinning stories. She said I hit her, pushed her, tried to kill her. Every time she pretended to cry, and every time my family believed her. And so, I was sent to Moon Shade’s prison—for two years. Now they were telling me I was the one they cared about most. What a joke. Charles’s phone buzzed. Sophia’s name flashed across the screen. He answered. The moment her voice came through, the air grew sticky. “Charles, you’re still not here? Everyone’s waiting for you.” His tone softened instantly. “I’m on my way. I’ve got Karen with me.” “That’s great!” she laughed softly. “I’m sure she’s changed for the better.” He hung up, then asked the driver to turn the car around. The SUV slid over snow, heading toward the concert hall. He glanced at me; voice low. “Sophia is just a simple mind Omega. Don’t hurt her again.” I didn’t answer. The lights in the hall were blinding, bright like snow glare. Sophia stood under the spotlight at center stage, wearing the white custom gown I’d ordered three years ago. And I could only stand in the shadows and watch her. Thunderous applause rolled through the hall as she stepped off the stage. The lights shifted to the dim yellow of the backstage corridor. Lisa dabbed the sweat from her forehead with a tissue, Henry smiled beside them, and my brother Kane handed her a bottle of water from behind. They all laughed together, like a real family. The last of the stage lights spilled over them, leaving nothing but darkness for me. “The judges tonight include Quinn, right?” Sophia lifted her chin. “I heard he only takes one student every year. If it’s me… maybe I’ll be touring Europe soon.” Charles chuckled as he ruffled her hair. “Then go. It’s a great opportunity.” Sophia glanced my way, pretending it was casual. “Karen, you’re back.” She walked over and caught my hand. I pulled away without a word. Lisa shot me a sharp look. “Don’t treat her like that.” I didn’t argue. I knelt to pick up the scattered sheet music on the floor. As I bent down, my collar slipped to one side and the scars on my shoulder showed. Charles grabbed my wrist suddenly, his voice tight with anger. “Who hit you?” I didn’t answer. A scream split the air. “Ah—my foot!” Everyone turned. Sophia fell on the floor, skirts spread out around her, tears already pooling in her eyes. Charles dropped my hand on instinct and rushed to her side. My family hurried after him like they’d rehearsed this scene a hundred times. I stood in the glare of the light, watching their backs. My lips moved, but I didn’t smile. Then I heard a voice. “Karen?” A man with silver hair stood in the shadows, eyes locked on me. Quinn—one of the most famous music masters in the world. “Do you still remember me?” “I do.” My throat tightened. “Two years ago, I wanted to take you away. You refused. Now, do you still want to stay with Moon Shade Pack?” “I thought you were here for Sophia.” “I knew you were getting out today. I came for you,” he said calmly. “Your bloodline, your talent… they’re not meant to be buried here.” He stared at me. “If you’re willing, I’ll help you start over. New name, new country. You won’t need any of them ever again.” My fingers trembled. The air was icy; I could smell snow. “Okay,” I said. “I’m willing.” He exhaled a cloud of white breath and patted my shoulder, satisfied. “We leave in half a month. I’ll arrange everything.” Outside, the wind and snow howled even harder. I followed the trail of snow back home and stood in front of the door. I keyed in my birthday. The keypad flashed twice. Beep. Password incorrect. The mechanical voice was cold and flat. Staring at that door, I suddenly realized—inside their world, I had already been erased.
