Prologue
He took a huge drag of oxygen into his lungs, searching for the slightest hint of her scent in the air. He groaned frustratedly when he couldn't find any. He cursed underneath his breath while he frantically searched every corner of the dense forest. His body suddenly tensed as he caught a faint scent of blood. Without question, he blurred, flying past the trees as he followed the scent blindly. Finally, he reached the top of the small hill as the sky took on red, purple and pink hues that indicated the break of dawn. Upon reaching the top of the hill, he crumbled to his knees as the sight before him shattered his heart into a million pieces. The girl's raven black hair was splayed all around her as she lay on the grass, her chest heaving as blood gushed out of it. Her pale undead skin was a direct contrast to the lively green grass beneath her. Her cerulean blue eyes frantically wondered about as she tried to grasp onto the last thread of life. Jacobi's hands shook as he lifted the girl's head into his lap, unshed tears brimming his eyes. His gaze went cold as he stared at the designed dagger that stood firm against her heart. The girl in his arms shook violently as the poison grasped harder on her heart, making it hard for her to stay awake for just a moment longer. With slow movements, she removed the ring on her finger as a ghost of a smile made its way onto her face. She placed the ring in Jacobi's hands as she resigned to death. A rage-filled tear slipped past Jacobi's cheek as he watched the light fade from the girl's beautiful blue orbs. Pain gripped at his heart as he felt their bond wither away along with the girl. Her body slowly turned red as the sun peaked from behind the mountains, making her fall victim to its wrath. Noticing this, Jacobi closed the girl's fear-written eyes that were staring into his soul and reluctantly stepped back from the girl, allowing nature to take its course. Her body went up in flames as the sun fully came out behind the mountains, burning her body to ashes.
"Adelaide" was the last word to leave Jacobi's mouth before he turned around, leaving the burning body on the little hill knowing he would return to collect her essence before it could be blown away by the wind.
His grief slowly turned into anger that built a powerful thirst for revenge. He swore in his life that he would avenge the girl that just died in his arms. Many would say grief is a process that will finally lead to acceptance, but little is known that anger is just as strong as love and, as long as those two are involved in the same situation, it could only lead to destruction.
