Cloud Mountain - Chapter 2

1460 Words
After leaving a message, Elsa climbed up the high wall by the bare trunk of an old tree that had been trimmed. She stepped on the ladder provided by Rob and quietly left the packhouse without alerting anyone. Seeing Rob carrying a branch of flowers on the way, Elsa's mouth twitched. Seeing Cathy humming a tune with a carefree look, she finally spoke up, "My Lady, what expression do you think Prince Alex will have when he sees the flower you had Rob deliver?" Cathy couldn't be bothered to guess, "Who cares? As long as the message is delivered." Elsa fell silent once more, thinking that her lady wasn't afraid to break her own reputation in front of Prince Alex. How many girls in Shadow Ridge wanted to marry into the Cloud Mountain pack? Even if it was just his companion, they would probably fight tooth and nail for it. But her lady, upon hearing about the arranged marriage, was so furious that she almost wanted to tear down the walls. Later on, she came up with countless ways to ruin the marriage. If it weren't for Alex and the elders joining forces to suppress it, the news would have been widely known. The future Luna of the Cloud Mountain pack should possess grace, virtue, and propriety, but she had none of those qualities. From childhood, her lady never cared about her reputation and had done many things out of the ordinary. Just in recent years, the elders of the Moon Lake pack managed to suppress them, preventing them from spreading. If they had been spread earlier, the Luna of the Cloud Mountain pack probably wouldn't have allowed the messenger to come to the Moon Lake pack. Now, it has been a year since the marriage was fixed. The wedding arrangements are underway, and her lady couldn't make Prince Alex cancel the engagement. Instead, now she has to go to Cloud Mountain to familiarize herself with the environment and rules in advance. Sometimes she doesn't understand why Prince Alex chose her lady as his mate. If it was based on her picture, without knowing about her absurd actions, it would be OK. But in the past year, the troubles caused by Miss Cathy were uncontrollable even for the elders of the Moon Lake pack, yet Prince Alex helped suppress them. It is evident that he has made up his mind, and this marriage cannot be disrupted. In terms of status, although the Moon Lake pack is not insignificant among the packs of Shadow Ridge, they are only a mid-level pack. As for her lady's conduct, she doesn't want to mention it, even after following her for many years. In short, it's really difficult to understand! "Why are you silent?" Cathy asked Elsa. Elsa looked at her and said worriedly, "The Prince may not be a big deal, but the Luna in the palace might cause trouble for you. When the court painter came to paint your portrait, you refused to be painted and covered your face with a book. The Luna was very displeased. Later, there was an affair with Prince Edwin of the Silver Arc pack, and the Luna almost tore up the roster. Although Prince Alex resolved the matter with a few words, and the Luna couldn't oppose his decision, she fell ill afterwards. Although the things you did during this year were well hidden by the Moon Lake pack and Prince Alex, it must have been difficult to hide them from the Luna. This time, Prince Alex is bringing you into the palace to familiarize yourself with their rules. After you enter the Cloud Mountain pack, the Luna will surely make things difficult for you." Cathy didn't care and said, "Let her make things difficult. I'm afraid she won't." Elsa looked at Cathy and said, "Then you should think of a strategy in advance, otherwise, you will be at a disadvantage." "A disadvantage?" Cathy chuckled and reached out to tap Elsa's head. "You're overthinking." Elsa rubbed her forehead helplessly and said, "My lady, Prince Alex was raised by the Luna and is said to have great respect for her. If you don't want to be at a disadvantage, you will inevitably offend her. Although you haven't annoyed the Prince enough to cancel the engagement in the past year, when it comes to the Luna, he might not stand by your side anymore. Wouldn't that be the end of your engagement?" Cathy looked up at the sky and said, "Isn't that what I've been seeking?" Elsa fell completely silent. The two of them traveled leisurely, enjoying the scenery along the way. They had been on the road for over half a month and still hadn't reached the Cloud Mountain pack. Meanwhile, Rob remembered Cathy's instructions and bought a good horse. He rode the horse day and night for three days and arrived at the Cloud Mountain pack on the fourth day. Reaching the pack was easy, but it was difficult to meet Alex and personally hand over the branch of flowers to him. Rob wandered outside the pack for three days. He could see that the branch of flowers had dried up, with only a few scattered dry flowers left. It was at this moment that he realized the thing Cathy gave him was not easy to preserve and had an expiration date. Seeing that there was only one dry twig left, he became truly anxious and decided to wait at the gate of the palace. He waited for a whole day until the sun set, and finally, a patrol in black armor appeared. Without hesitation, he immediately stopped them and shouted, "By order of my Lady, I have brought a gift for His Highness Alex!" As soon as he shouted in his hoarse voice, everyone on the road heard him. The guards of the palace were startled, they quickly approached, taking wolf form and raising their claws to Rob's neck. They angrily asked, "Who are you?" Rob was frightened, his body trembling. He felt the icy cold against his neck, knowing that a blink of an eye could end his life. Summoning his courage, he stammered, "Prince Alex... I am here to deliver a gift to Prince Alex." The guards had already heard clearly earlier, but now they looked at him with suspicion. At this moment, from the back of the line came a tall young man. He removed his mask to reveal an angular face with clear features. His voice carried a hint of coolness as he looked at Rob and asked, "Are you the person sent by Cathy? Cathy from the Moon Lake pack?" Looking at the man with such an elegant grace, Rob was momentarily stunned. This is Alex! Prince Alex! His face was blank, but his heart was ecstatic. He finally saw Prince Alex. The guards on both sides became angry when he didn't respond and shouted, "You see Prince Alex and don't answer!" Rob was awakened by the shouting and made a quick bow, holding up the branch of flowers tremblingly. He was so excited as he said, "Your Highness Alex, I have finally seen you. I have been waiting outside the pack for three days and here for another day... This is the branch of flowers that Lady Cathy entrusted me to bring to you." Alex looked at Rob, his gaze falling on the withered branch he held high. After listening to his rambling words, his expression changed slightly, and he asked in a cold voice, "A branch of flowers?" Rob nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, it's a branch of flowers." Alex raised an eyebrow, "Given to me by Cathy?" Rob nodded again. Alex looked at the dried-up branch for a moment, then said, "Bring it over." Rob quickly got up to hand over the branch. At this moment, a guard pressed his claw against his neck and sternly said, "Don't move. Give me the branch." Rob could only obediently step back and handed the branch to the guard. The guard took the withered branch, inspected it, and handed it to Alex. Alex took the branch, examined it for a while, and asked Rob, "Besides asking you to bring the branch, did she send any other message?" Rob nodded quickly, "She told me to give you the branch and also inform you that there's no need to send someone to pick her up. She will come by herself." Alex played with the dried branch, and a few wilted flowers fell to the ground. He looked at them and suddenly smiled, "She is considerate." Rob didn't understand the meaning of this sentence and looked at him. Alex waved his hand, and in a gentle voice, he ordered, "Bring him back to the palace."
