Isaiah thought Elmer was about to cover for Melanie, so he raised his voice and cut him off. "Mr. Boyd, I'm talking to Ms. Willis."
He locked eyes with Melanie, his tone becoming sharper. "Is a simple question about your education difficult to answer, Ms. Willis? Why do you need Mr. Boyd to speak for you? Or is it that you haven't actually finished your Ph.D.? Or maybe your school isn't even highly ranked globally, so you're embarrassed to say?"
