Zeke sent Abigail and Jamie home after their ordeal. Willard hauled the overly excited draft horses back to his place and Fern stepped in to help Zeke out for the rest of the afternoon at The Thinking Bean.
Even though she went straight home and didn’t think she’d been too affected, Abigail couldn't shake the shivering sensation in her stomach. Adrenaline, she guessed.
Her Mom insisted that she take a hot bath right away, which she did. She put on some fuzzy fleece pants and a sweater while her hair dried into its curly mop. Her Mom was in the kitchen cooking goodies for their evening party, but she wouldn't hear of Abigail helping her or exerting herself in any way.
"You've been through a shocking experience, sweetie. You need to rest," she told her daughter.
