CHAPTER 8 A FRIGHTENED RABBIT The woman looked to be a few years younger than Shea, with a pixie cut and bangs that swept across her forehead. No makeup. Pale skin. A hazy memory of a phone conversation surfaced in Shea’s mind. Had she talked with this woman and invited her over? “Oh, of course,” Toni replied, her tone instantly more welcoming. “Come on in. Are you hungry? We were just having dinner, and there’s plenty.” “Oh, no thanks. I’m fine.” The woman’s eyes flitted about the room. She held her purse to her chest with both arms.
