CHAPTER 45 ALLIANCES In the middle of the night, Annie Wittmann and her fellow campers had been rousted from their beds at Bold Women of Tomorrow and herded into panel vans. The drive took hours, and they had no way to see where they were going. Holly Gordon, the camp program coordinator, explained they were taking part in a team-building exercise. No further explanation. When the van stopped and they were let out, Annie realized they were in a clearing in the woods surrounded by several cabins. The air was cool and smelled of pines. She didn’t know where they were. Could be in the national forests near Prescott or Ironwood, but it wouldn’t have taken them that long to get there. Her gut told her she was further east. Someplace north of the Mogollon Rim, maybe even the White Mountains
