RESCUE
For the rest of the day, and throughout the night, thunder shook the walls of the cabin. The roof leaked over Abigail’s cot, so they all shifted over to stay dry. Some of the lightning strikes sounded so close, Annie wondered what would happen if it struck the building itself and set the place ablaze. How would they get out?
At first light the next morning, Annie was back picking the lock. But try as she might, she could not set all the pins. It felt at times like she had, but the cylinder refused to turn. Damned security pins.
She stopped when she heard multiple footsteps approaching. Annie and Sydney exchanged a glance and crouched, ready to pounce.
