CHAPTER 14 Carly could hear the rumble of the motorcycle in the distance but paid little attention. Over the hill was the highway, she thought, where lots of cars, trucks, and motorcycles sped by to wherever it was they were going. It never ceased to amaze Carly that, whenever she went riding in an automobile, there were always hundreds of other vehicles on the highway. She wondered where these people were going all the time and why they were always in such a hurry. Monroe pricked his ears forward and slowed his gait. He was on alert. He sensed danger in the air.
