CHAPTER 27 A light mist retreated from the valley, as the rising sun signaled the arrival of Thanksgiving morning, crisp and cool, a brilliant day across the Virginia countryside. Carly was excited as she raced through breakfast. Buster the cat sniffed around the kitchen, overflowing with the smells of early turkey preparations. A delicious day awaited. For Carly this was to be a special Thanksgiving because Grandpa Oakley had promised they could ride out to the ridge and watch the Thanksgiving Hunt pass through the lower meadow. The holiday ride always attracted a huge hunt field, over one hundred riders, and, ever since moving in with her grandfather, Carly wanted to experience it up close. Despite being reprimanded by the Master, Carly was still enthralled with the Hunt. S
