Epilogue

761 Words

Eight years later… Metztli stood at the iron gates of the packhouse, rubbing his icy hands together. The night was unusually cold, but he kept watch for his sister’s caravan of black SUVs. It had been a few months since he had the chance to see his sister, but this visit wasn’t for the pleasure of reconnecting with his sibling. This visit was something that was years in the making, and he was more than happy to facilitate it for his sister. It all began the night before. As he helped Sam clear the table after dinner, Cole came in to let them know there was a strange girl at the gate asking for Metztli. The squeals from his eight- and three-year-old daughters had made it hard to hear Cole, but when he repeated himself, Metztli just knew in the pit of his stomach that the girl was Xochi.
