Ch. 35: The Work Yet To Be Done

Sam sat on the floor of her office four days later, files and stacks of papers strewed around her. Her brows furrowed as she concentrated on the paperwork in her hand. Dakota sat in one of the leather chairs by the window, his face steel as his eyes skimmed over the file in his hand. This was their second day going through all of Asher’s paperwork, trying to straighten out all the secret inner workings of the pack while he was in charge. And while Asher was a sh*t Alpha, he turned out to be a meticulous record keeper. Sam had been impressed by the diligent work Asher had done. Payments, notes, shipments, everything, all in neat files, written in nice columns, like Asher had no fear that they would be found.  “He really felt untouchable,” Sam had commented to Dakota in utter astonishment.
