The unimaginable

1 my family All my life I had wanted a life of adventure. I had wanted to do something new and great. I had just wanted to be unique and outstanding My name is Ariana, the last baby of the family of three. My dad is a very prosperous businessman who put the interest of his Children first in all does. Just like the famous bible verse " seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and every other things shall be added unto you" . He is always supportive of our dreams. unlike my mom who is so strict and mean, she is too principled and would not give in to some stupid ambitions, but has to change after loosing my Younger brother Juan. Mum wanted Juan to be a medical doctor and take over her Clinic. But that idea wasn't pretty cool for Juan who dreamed to be a footballer, all his dream was just to play ball and nothing more. But I think she learned her lesson the hard way when Juan died out of depression and suicide. My elder brother Ken is a businessman who took after my father, he is pretty much interested in making money and my daddy can't be less proud of him. And I, I'm just a silly girl who wants to be unique and outstanding. Enough of my family. 2 My journey On the 22nd of may 20nd may 2019, I embarked on what you may call a stupid and insane journey. I had an appointment with doctor Kelvin, a doctor in the Nigerian teaching hospital UNTH. I informed him of my crazy idea of having multiple fathers baby. At first he thought I was talking of having many baby fathers, but hell no, I was talking of fertilizing my egg with mixture of sperms. what? You must be insane, he yelled. Have you gone nut? wha- what are you talking about? I think your alcoholism on the high, well, that's your opinion I chipped in, and I careless about that. Young lady, scientifically, Fertilization is the natural life process, which is carried out by the fusion of both male and female gametes, which results in the formation of a zygote. In humans, the process of fertilization takes place in the fallopian tube. During this process, semen comprising thousands of sperms are inseminated into the female v****a during c****s. The sperms move towards the uterus and reach the opening of the fallopian tube. only a few sperms will succeed in reaching the opening of the fallopian tube. I was listening to him with an indifferent look. Very simple I snap; through insemination. you would inseminate each sperm to another by Attaching a vial containing the sample of healthy sperm to a catheter Inserts the catheter into another sperm just same way of inseminatiing sperm in to the vagina through the cervical opening and into the uterus. You would repeat the process till all the sperms are inseminate into each other and then pushes the sperm sample through the tube into the uterus. Removes the catheter, followed by the speculum, which will probably take less than 15mins and boom a zygote may be formed once the fertilization is confirmed. Hmmm! I see you have all the process planned already, but do you consider the chances of fertilization? do you also put in consideration the temperature of the sperms? can they survive in such environment. well, I've got no idea, but I think if we get the temperature to 37 degrees centigrade it will be pretty ok. Just as I was about to get the doctor believe in my plan, my mum called. Arian, where are you? uhmm mum, I- I'm knowing not what to say I was literally stammering, Mum yelled at me in a very coax baritone Ariana Ejim, will you tell me where you are immediately? Guess her parents are oblivious of her plans, the doctor muttered. I glared at him signaled to him to keep quiet. God please don't let anything happen to my daughter, I could feel the pant of her heart and immediately she turned on her ignition and shouted in a voice almost crying, sweet heart what's the name of the hospital? hey mum, calm down. I'm fine I just went there for a checkup, I wasn't involved any accident. Oh thank God your good, but you should've come to the family Clinic for checkup instead of going a different hospital. Mum! I want something different, ok I get it, just be safe love you. Your are so ridiculous the doctor said, how on earth do you plan to take such risk without telling your parents? I beg your pardon sir, I don't think you have any right to meddle in my personal life. Just be the doctor your are and do your job. I guess she's a spoiled child he whispered to himself who is your donor? Are you gonna be using donor from a sperm bank? the doctor asked, no way! I will make contact with my donors, I spoken to few of them and they are cool with it. have you checked their health and genetic conditions? That's why I'm here, you are gonna have an appointment with them and have it sorted out , I said as though that simple. Miss Ejim, I'm sorry to ask, have you been pregnant before? no I said anxiously waiting for the next question gazing at him eye ball to eye ball. Just as he was about to open his mouth- sir, we have some situations here, that patient is bleeding again a lady on a white dress said looking so pale and panicking. Bleeding? why? the doctor asked with a confused face and quickly stood up, put on his lab coat and ran out of the room like a rat that escaped from a big cat Left alone in that God forsaken office, my eye quickly went to the wall where a portrait of a pregnant woman I began to ponder what my situation may be. I started to think how discomforting pregnancy may be. I thought about the woman who was bleeding, probably she is pregnant, I said to myself. What if the same thing occurs to me? There are sometimes complications in normal pregnancy, what then would be my fate in this what you may call abnormal pregnancy? Hmm, Ariana Ejimnkonye are you really sure about this, can you handle it? Hey! is not too late to quit you know my conscience said. No I shouted, I can't go back I have begun and must see the end. My eye went back to the portrait again but this time, I saw something different. the portrait seems to be sending some messages, the women's eyes was a kind of telling me something. I saw pains, anguish and anger. The portrait was indirectly saying had I known the pain would be this much I wouldn't dare. In a moment I started to imagine being in that portrait, in my imagination, I started feeling pains around my waist, my abdomen was stiff and my legs were very. All of a sudden, I was feeling nausea as I was about throwing up, the door flung open and waking me from my delusion I startled. Hey! are you ok? Dr Kelvin asked. Sure, I'm good. How about the woman? is she ok? yes she's fine now, she was three months gone, but had complications and we lost the baby. Those words struck me like a bullet fired from a close by and shattered my heart. Tears were almost dropping from eyes but I was able to resist them. Is she gonna be ok? I mean the woman. Dr Kelvin was bringing some files from his drawer when he looked at my face and the question I had asked earlier. He dropped those files crossing his arms, he said. Ariana Ejimnkonye, procreation is not a child's play. Because it is a process of bringing another life to this world. But the pains and sufferings shouldn't be enough to scare people away from such assignment if anyone truly wants it. 3 Doctor's advise miss Ejim, I would advise you inform your parents about your plans. Why I snap, because I need their concert before I could do anything to you he said.
