Jonas and Cash were nestled in front of the fireplace in their massive bedroom, the warmth from the fire washing over them. The room was quiet except for the sound of the crackling flames and the occasional pop of a log.
Cash had his arm around Jonas, holding him close. They had been together for years, but he never tired of the feeling of Jonas's body against his own. They had always been a good match, balancing each other out in the best possible way.
They were both dressed in comfortable clothes, sweatpants, and t-shirts, a far cry from the formal attire they often wore when they were attending to pack business. They were enjoying a rare moment of peace and quiet, just the two of them alone.
Cash broke the silence first, his voice low and thoughtful. "Do you ever worry about Turner?" he asked.
Jonas turned his head to look up at Cash, his expression curious. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, she's going to be taking over as alpha next year, and she's still so unsociable. I just don't know if she's ready for the responsibility."
Jonas frowned, considering the question. "I see what you mean, but I have faith in her. She's smart and capable, and I think she'll surprise us all."
Cash nodded, his eyes still troubled. "I hope you're right. I just worry that she'll be in over her head."
They fell silent again, both lost in their own thoughts. Jonas shifted slightly, then spoke up. "What about Zane? Are you worried about him?"
Cash sighed, his grip on Jonas tightening slightly. "Yeah, I am. He's so...I don't know, unfocused, I guess. He doesn't seem to have any real goals or aspirations."
Jonas thought for a moment. "I think he's just taking his time, figuring out what he wants to do with his life."
Cash shook his head. "I don't know. I think he needs someone to guide him, to give him some direction."
Jonas raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"I mean...well, Turner hasn't chosen a beta yet, right?" Cash said. "And I think Zane would be a great choice. Not just because he's her twin brother, but because of his attributes."
Jonas was quiet for a moment, considering the suggestion. "You think Zane would make a good beta?"
Cash nodded. "I do. He's loyal and strong, and I think he could really thrive in that role. Plus, it would give him a sense of purpose, something to work towards."
Jonas nodded slowly. "I see what you mean. I'll talk to Turner about it."
Cash smiled, the tension in his body easing slightly. "Thanks, love. I just want to make sure our kids are all set up for success."
Jonas leaned in for a kiss, his lips meeting Cash's in a soft, gentle embrace. They pulled back after a moment, just looking into each other's eyes.
"I'm glad we have each other," Jonas said, his voice filled with emotion.
Cash smiled. "Me too. Always."
Turner was at Alpha camp, the annual gathering of young alphas from various packs. She had just finished a grueling practice, and now she was sitting alone, feeling tired and frustrated. Despite her skill and success in the practice, she felt disconnected from the other cadets. She couldn't seem to get along with them, no matter how hard she tried.
As she sat there, lost in her thoughts, a slightly older alpha approached her. He was tall and muscular, with a kind face and a gentle demeanor. He introduced himself as Caleb and said that he had noticed her skill and determination during the practice.
They struck up a conversation, and Turner found herself opening up to him in a way that she hadn't been able to do with anyone else. She told him about her struggles with the other cadets, about how she felt like an outsider in her own pack.
Caleb listened carefully, nodding along as she spoke. "I understand how you feel," he said. "Being an alpha is a lonely job. You have to make tough decisions and sometimes you have to go against what other people want. It's not always easy."
Turner nodded, feeling comforted by his words. "But how do I make them understand?" she asked. "How do I get them to see that I'm not trying to be mean or distant?"
Caleb smiled. "It's not about getting them to understand. It's about understanding them. You have to put yourself in their shoes, and see things from their perspective. It takes time and effort, but it's worth it."
As they talked, Turner found herself feeling more and more drawn to Caleb. He was wise and kind, and she felt as though he understood her in a way that no one else did. But she pushed those thoughts aside, knowing that she was too young to feel the bond.
Caleb, on the other hand, was struggling with his own feelings. He felt a strong attraction to Turner, and he knew that she was his mate. But he also knew that she was too young to feel the bond, and he didn't want to overwhelm her.
So he kept his feelings to himself, trying his best to act normal and professional around her. But it was a struggle, and his canines itched whenever he was near her.
As they parted ways, Caleb felt a mix of emotions. He was proud of Turner for her skill and determination, and he knew that she would make a great alpha. But he also felt a deep longing for her, one that he knew he would have to keep to himself for the time being.
Turner, for her part, felt a sense of comfort and understanding that she hadn't felt in a long time. She knew that being an alpha was going to be hard, but she also knew that she had people like Caleb to help guide her along the way.
Caleb and Turner met up again a few days later, this time in the mess hall. Turner was feeling much more at ease around Caleb now, and she found herself enjoying his company more and more.
As they sat down to eat, Caleb grinned at Turner. "So, I heard you beat all the cadettes again today. You're making the rest of us look bad, you know."
Turner laughed. "I can't help it. I was born for this."
Caleb raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? Is that why you're always scowling and grumpy?"
Turner rolled her eyes. "I'm not always grumpy."
Caleb chuckled. "I know, I know. I'm just teasing. But seriously, you should smile more. You've got a great smile."
Turner blushed, feeling a flutter in her stomach. She knew that Caleb was just being friendly, but she couldn't help feeling drawn to him.
Caleb noticed her reaction, and he quickly changed the subject. "So, have you made any new friends here at Alpha camp?"
Turner's expression brightened. "Actually, yes. There's a girl from Fiery Falls pack, her name is Lily. She's really nice, and we've been hanging out a lot."
Caleb nodded. "That's great. It's important to have friends in this line of work."
Turner smiled. "Yeah, it is. I'm really happy that I met her."
Caleb's expression softened. "I'm happy for you, Turner. You deserve to have people in your life who care about you."
Turner felt a warmth spread through her chest. Caleb had a way of making her feel seen and understood in a way that no one else did. She knew that he was just being friendly, but she couldn't help feeling grateful for his presence in her life.
They finished their meal in comfortable silence, each lost in their own thoughts. As they got up to leave, Caleb gave Turner a friendly pat on the back.
"Keep up the good work, Turner. I have a feeling you're going to be a great alpha one day."
Turner grinned at him, feeling a sense of pride in her chest. "Thanks, Caleb. I'm going to make you proud."
