Chapter 2

Sad but can't be reversed. Cuddled up against the pillow and staring blankly at nothing in particular. Ariel sneezed for the upteempth time. She heard footsteps on the stairs and it stopped right on her door, she frowned when someone knocked. It was gentle yet firm. She ignored whoever was knocking. The second then the third time before the person let himself into the room. The audacity to enter someone's room without the permission to, whoever it is, lacks manner. "Hey, are you still sleeping" came thi gruff voice. That's him, what should she call him, her dad's housekeeper? Manager? Manager seems okay since he was introduced to be the one in charge here. No reply. She didn't know the time he walked to her side of the bed or maybe she was lost in her own thoughts. She could only figure out his movement since she has her back to him. The impact of his weight wasn't left unnoticed by Ariel. "Breakfast is ready and everyone is waiting for you to come downstairs" Damien said staring at her back, the fresh fresh skin of her neck inviting him. And when he started having this reaction towards women, he was sure it was from pity. Pity? That doesn't correlate with whatever is going on in his mind. Ariel shrugged off his hand on her shoulder, does he not understand what a silent era his? She thought "Why are you not saying anything?" Damien asked, his voice slightly raised than usual. "I want to be alone so leave" Ariel responded with the same energy. So commanding "That's why you are ignoring me, what's all this attitude for?" Damien is becoming a little irritated by her actions, she could have said that. "Mr Manager please get your ass off my bed and room" Ariel said in between her teeth, still not sparing him a glance. Damien stood up, hands in his pocket, "breakfast is ready, we are waiting" "Eat without me, I'm not hungry" Damien stopped and looked back, is she kidding him. He understands the fact that she just lost her only surviving family and she will behave, that's understandable but starving herself? Not under his roof. "You have five minutes to come downstairs" And that did it, she yanked the blanket off her body and faced him. Her looks gave him shivers. "And if I don't? Hun, will you drag me downstairs and feed me because it's your duty?" Ariel asked in a mocking tone. "That's up to you" Damien frowned at her. "Well I will see you try" she folded her arms in a challenging manner. Damien raised his hands in surrender, "suit yourself" he said before walking out of her room. She thought as much. Why was she so angry though, he was only being nice by asking her to come for breakfast. She didn't ask him to so it was his fault anyway. This is her father's house and she knows her way around the house, not him acting like his lord here. She gave a long hiss before going back to bed. "She ain't coming?" Jayden asked Damien as he saw him walk into the dinning room. Damien shakes his head in the negative "I guess, but don't worry she will be fine," Jayden said, digging into his egg sauce. Damien frowned at the kid's attitude, it's just the day after their father's funeral and his mood has lightened up unlike her sister. Jayden should have been the older one so he could babysit her ass all day. He thought dealing with the boy would be difficult because of the way he kids act these days only to be proved otherwise. "Did something else happen up there?" Jayden asked, his fork in his mouth in a childish manner. "Nope, why are you asking?" Damien responded frowning. "I mean you have been frowning ever since you returned from her room and you are still frowning" Jayden said with a shrug. "Oh it's nothing I can't handle," Damien said, discouraging further conversation. "Just so you know, Ariel doesn't know how to let go easily, when she's hurt, happy, and sad. She holds on strongly to those feelings and the people around her either enjoy or suffer with her" Jayden informed him. "That explains it, just sad that there won't be any food left for her when she's ready to eat" Damien smirk. "Isn't that a little bit harsh? I mean her actions are justifiable" Jayden said, describing with his finger. "That's the rule here kid, we all eat at the same time and no one eats after timeout. So it's not my fault or doings" "Can't you consider the fact that she's mourning our father?" Jayden pressed further. "She needs to eat if she wants to mourn any further" Damien had said before he could retract his words. "I'm done eating here" Jayden stood up from the table, heading upstairs without looking back. Damien hit his hand against the wooden table, he saw the hurt in the boy's eyes. He's going to drop dead any time soon, maybe he should prepare his burial beforehand. He didn't sleep a wink last night because he had to keep up with the properties they've bought before his boss' demise. And now she has to deal with these kids. Oops!!! He stood up from the table to prepare for work. "Big sis, feeling better?" Jayden asked, letting himself into her room. He climbed the bed, laying down beside her. "Yeah, hope you have eaten?" Ariel asked, and he nodded in affirmation. "You have to come eat or else there won't be any food left after timeout" Jayden informed her. "Who?" Ariel asked, her voice a little bit raised. "Damien" "Who does this guy thinks he is, huh, he can't order us around in our father house" "Well sis, he's in charge unless dad's lawyer state otherwise" "Damn I hate this" Ariel exclaimed, gritting her teeth. A soft knock was heard outside. "Come in," Jayden said. Damien walked in, closing the door behind him. He scans the room then goes back to the lady occupying it. "Your father's lawyer will be coming later in the day, you both should prepare yourself and please and please comport yourselves" Damien announced, looking at their faces, from one person to the other. "Okay, thanks" Jayden responded. "Can you tell the cook to prepare something else for me?" Damien heard Ariel ask. "Well no, I told you it's up to you, and you already did what pleases you so I hope that satisfies you till lunch" Damien smiled at her. "What's that supposed to mean?" Ariel asked in a rude manner. "Well kids, I'm off work, and Miss, do prepare yourself, you are joining the company next week" Damien said and left without waiting for any of their response. Fact is, he is doing what's best for them. "I hate him, I swear I'm going to have him punished for his rash behavior" Ariel said with a sullen face. "What should I order for you?" Jayden asked, walking towards the door. "I'm not hungry," Ariel hissed. "Suit yourself" Jayden said and left. Seriously, why are these people being mean to her?!
