Her Frustration

1184 Words
[Remi’s POV] “Is there a problem?” Mister Reynold’s voice erupts through the classroom, causing those who sit around me to break into laughter and some to whisper insults that have long since stopped bothering me. They’re annoyingly frustrating, but they’re nothing compared to Kane. He stands there, a smirk on his lips, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes, and his body posture screaming, "Go on and try it." He’s infuriating, and yet, he’s also strangely alluring. Eyes widening, I realize too late what thoughts were going through my head, and when I try to recover my expression because I’m almost certain it is showing what I’m thinking, I discover that I’m much too late. “Miss Woods,” Mister Reynold’s growls, drawing my attention to him. “Is there a problem?” “No,” I respond, feeling the tips of my ears flushing. “I was just thinking of something unpleasant.” “Something unpleasant,” he repeats as my classmates’ laughter increases. “Care to share with the class?” No. I think to myself but quickly understand that this may be a chance for me to escape. “I was just thinking how hideous it is for a man of your age to think wearing a toupee way too far back was a good idea.” “What?” He roars, his face turning beet red with rage. “What did you just say?” “I said…” I begin but stop as Kane reaches out and touches Mister Reynold’s arm. “Allow me,” he says, causing my heart to squeeze as I wonder what exactly he is planning. “Miss Woods, was it?” He continues, focusing on me while pretending that this was the first time we were meeting. “Would you please come with me for a moment?” “I don’t want to.” I respond before I can stop myself. “That would be even more unpleasant than Mister Reynold’s toupee.” “Remi!” Mister Reynold’s roars, and I’m rising, knowing that now is the time to escape. “I will see myself to Principal Garcia’s office.” “Wait!” Mister Reynold’s gasps as I throw my bag over my shoulder and rush for the classroom’s exit. “Where do…” I don’t hear the rest of what he has to say as the door slams closed behind me and I move down the hall, beelining for the parking lot instead of the principal’s office. Sure, this meant that I would be in even more trouble because I was planning on skipping for the rest of the day, but at least it would give me a chance to clear my head. What the hell was even happening these past few days? How did my world get so twisted upside down by a single man, and why did it seem like he was haunting me? “Remi!” Think of the devil and he shall appear, I think, ignoring the footsteps that are moving in closer. Why won’t he just leave me the hell alone? “Remi!” He repeats, and before I can even say a single f*****g thing, his hand is wrapping around my wrist, and I’m seeing that damned scene. “LET GO!” I scream, pulling back and then crashing into some lockers. “Don’t you know what personal space is?” “Haven’t you heard of respecting your elders?” He counters, unphased by my outburst. “Anyway, if you had just responded to me, I wouldn’t have had to touch you.” “You didn’t have to touch me even if I did.” I snap, trying to compose myself. “Why the hell are you even following me?” “Because if I don’t, I’m certain that you will escape.” That was the plan. I think, hating that it seemed as though he could read my f*****g mind. Why does it even matter to you? “I’m just trying to keep you out of trouble.” He says when I give a pointed look. “Since I’m your father’s precious intern.” “Precious,” I repeat, grimacing. “That’s a word you use for babies and children, not grown-ass men.” “Then what would you call me?” He challenges, clearly enjoying the exchange. “I’d like to know what you think of me.” “Really?” I ask, wanting to strangle him. “You really want to know after everything you’ve done?” “Me,” he repeats, looking taken aback. “I don’t remember doing a thing.” “Of course,” I sigh, turning and beginning to move again. “You’re innocent; my mistake. Now please, stop following me.” “No can do.” He responds, falling into step beside me. “As your assistant teacher, it is my job to make sure that you stay out of trouble.” “I don’t remember acknowledging you as my teacher.” Frustration growing, I fix my gaze on the school’s exit, but before I can reach it, Kane is grabbing me again. “I said don’t touch me!” I growl, attempting to pull away, only to stop as the sound of laughter reaches us. “Dammit.” As I speak, I try to break free of his hold while knowing if we were spotted, rumors would certainly erupt. Ones that would definitely make me out to be a loose woman. “I said…” “What are you afraid of?” He asks, tightening his hold. “Are you afraid that if I touch you enough, I will fall for you? Or vice versa?” Was he joking? Was he really suggesting such a thing when I had to see his horrific death every time he touched me? But I couldn’t tell him that. I couldn’t tell anyone about my visions otherwise… Shivering, I try not to remember my time in the psych ward, where I was treated like s**t. There was no reason in reminiscing since I had no intention of ever going back. “I don’t like to be touched.” I say instead, yanking so hard that Kane topples toward me, pinning me between his large body and some lockers. “What are you doing?” I gasp as the laughter from earlier is accompanied by voices. “Don’t you know what will happen if someone sees us?” “Then I suggest that you be good and listen.” Kane smirks, his breath tickling me. “Otherwise, be prepared for the entire school to think that we are fooling around.” "What's your problem?" I demand, fighting the urge to kick him. "Do you think that if you act like this any woman will fall for your charm? Well, I have something to tell you: no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you push, I will never…" "Sssshhhh," Kane chuckles, pressing a hand against my mouth. "Don't finish that sentence; otherwise, you may be eating your words later."
