Their Destinies

[Kane’s POV] I stare down at the little delinquent whose eyes widen with shock over my actions, and honestly that makes two of us. Why the hell was I even doing this? I wasn’t sure, but every f*****g time I got close to her and her scent began to envelope me, I just couldn’t stop myself from wanting to be closer to her and to touch her. However, I wouldn’t take that final step that would push me into a world of torture that I was willing to take. Slowly, I begin to regain my senses once more as I remember what it is that I was wanting to ask her. Of course, I was going to wait until after school, but since she created the perfect opportunity for us, now was the time. “Come with me,” I say now, releasing her mouth and grabbing her tiny wrist so images of my own demise reach me. What the hell was this? Why did I see such things every time I touched her? Was it her causing this or… No f*****g way. Feeling a wave of shock rush through me, I look to the little delinquent who looks ready to hurl, and I know in that instant that she can see it. But how? How could she possess a supernatural ability when her parents were completely human? Only those with supernatural blood could do such things. Then did that mean that maybe she wasn’t their child from the very beginning? “Please let go,” she croaks, her voice weak. “I’ll follow, so just…” For a moment, she doesn’t speak, but when she topples against me, I know that what she is seeing is taking a toll on her. “Alright,” I say, releasing her wrist and then turning. “Is it just skin to skin?” “Yeah,” she puffs. “Alright, then.” I don’t even take a second to think it over before I’m scooping her into my arms, and then I’m heading towards the nurses' office, where I’m certain there is something I can give her to return some of the color to her face. Fuck, she looked rough. Did it really take that much out of her to use her ability? When we arrive at our destination, I’m relieved to find a note on the door that says the nurse will be out for a few hours. Taking advantage of the opportunity, I head into the office and gently lay the little delinquent down on a cot. Once she is positioned, I head to the cabinet looking for… I didn’t even know. What the hell did you give to humans who were faint? If she were a vampire, then the go-to would be blood. That helped us recover from anything. At least, it should, but even I was struggling with finding some that didn’t taste horrible these days. “Why am I even doing this right now?” I grumble, realizing too late that I was caring a bit too much about the little delinquent. “She isn’t anything to me.” Feeling like a fool, I turn and take in the girl lying on the cot, breathing evenly despite her pale, sweat-soaked skin. “I’m fine,” she says, taking my look as one of questioning. “I just need to rest for a bit, and then I’ll be better.” “I don’t doubt it.” I agree. “But what kind of teaching assistant would I be to just leave a student alone in your condition?” “Like you care,” she huffs, turning her back to me. In that moment a flare of hunger hits me from her being so f*****g vulnerable, and it takes everything in me not to go for her. Maybe I should just leave. With each passing moment her scent was growing stronger and stronger despite the antiseptic smell that filled the space. If I wasn’t careful, I was certain that I would end up slipping up and doing something I would regret doing, but… I couldn’t leave until she told me what exactly was happening. Now that I was certain it was her fault I saw such a thing, I wanted to know more. Was it just me whose death she could see, or were there others? And if there were others, was she able to pinpoint exactly what led up to those deaths? It was intriguing, to say the least, and certainly not something that I expected to run into while completing my father’s deed. But most of all, it confirmed that someone was out to get me, and the only way to know for certain who it was was to take advantage of her ability. That only left me with one option, even if it was one that would leave me going against everything that I stood for. “I do care,” I say slowly, settling on my next move. “Otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered bringing you here.” If I wanted to get the little delinquent to open up to me and tell me about her ability and the scope of it, I would have to get her to let her walls down around me. The only way to go about doing that was to get her to fall for me. “Do you really think I would do such a thing for someone I didn’t give two shits about?” Even now as I begin my act, I feel my innate instincts screaming to stop, to take a step back, but I fight against them. Not only them, but even the ones that tell me to get closer because of how much her f*****g blood sings to me. I was a f*****g mess of contradictions, and it was frustrating, but a man had to do what he had to do to protect himself. “So, be good and let me take care of you.” I continue. Growing quiet, I wait while the little delinquent continues to keep her back to me, making it clear that she didn’t believe me. “Do what you want, just don’t touch me.” She sighs, making it clear that she is too exhausted to fight with me. “And once you finish, stay away from me.” No can do. I think. The minute we crossed paths and my fate became your problem, we were destined to stick close, at least until the one who was out to get me was found and eliminated. After that, I would happily grant her request since I wouldn't be needing her anymore anyway.
