Alexander’s POV I held her as close to me as I possibly could. I had almost lost her today and that realization hit both me and Hunter hard. She had jumped into the fire in order to save the human woman, which was commendable, but also incredibly stupid.  I cupped my mate’s face with my hands and tried to calm her down, but she wouldn’t stop mumbling. I leaned closer to her and heard her say, “I couldn’t save her,” over and over again. I sighed, knowing that Eleanor believed it was her fault that Linda perished. Looking into her eyes, they were vacant. Empty. There was deep pain in my heart. If I hadn’t argued with her, I could have joined her on this trip. I could have done more for her, and perhaps, Linda may still be alive. But wishing for a different outcome wouldn’t do any good rig
