Chapter 17

1682 Words
I decided to talk to Betty when I got home significantly trying to avoid any unwanted drama which could obviously happen, if I were to confront her in school. I sure didn’t need another super gossip topic on my plate. I think I had enough already. First, the rush girl issue and now the poster stuff. I didn’t want to add more the list. Presently, I was at the cafeteria. Charlotte and I were eating French Fries. Actually no. I was eating French Fries and Charlotte was stealing out of it even when she had an huge-sized harm burger in her front. I groaned when she took another out of it. “Just ask the whole bowl already” She smirked. “Can I?” I hit her fingers which were reaching out for it. “I was being sarcastic” She chuckled, retreating to her harm burger now and finally, some peace was restored. We ate in comfortable silence after a while and before I knew it. The siren was ringing for the next period. I got up, waving at her because we didn’t have the same subjects. I watched her walk to the other side and soon, I also made my way down to class. The remaining parts of the day went in a blur with me barely gasping by the time the entire class for today was done. I was drained and exhausted was too less a way to describe how I really felt. I was at my locker, parking up alone. Charlotte has made her way earlier with her boyfriend. Of cause. I couldn’t hold her back, so here I was, trying to get myself back home in one piece when my phone beeped. I pulled it out of my back pockets and a text appeared on the screen. Where are you? I frowned, looking at the number for a while before registering that it was Aiden’s number and that I forgot to save it. I typed back. In the hallway. Alright. After that, he didn’t write anything more and even went offline. I sighed. Throwing my phone back into my pockets and gathering my things into my bags. I was in the process of swinging over it my shoulders when I spotted a familiar frame walking over to my direction. An height that could easily tower over me, brown curls that fell into his face in somewhat roughened way due to way the air kept blowing at the edges and green piercing eyes. I stud merely watching him blank-faced, and soon he was stopping in my front. His eyes roamed over my appearance for a bit before muttering and not sarcastically. “Did you get run over by a truck?” I resisted an eye roll. “Yeah. The truck called school” He nodded in a small hum. “The school truck” He rephrased my statements and for a jiffy. I was wondering if he was really exchanging a joke with me in such a serious tone. I shook my head a bit. Could he ever be helped? “What?” He muttered almost catching my mocking gaze. I transferred it into an awkward smile. “Nothing” I cleared my throats and diverting. “Why were you searching for me?” He gave me that face. “We have a project, remember?” “Sorry. I forgot again” I retorted, feeling my legs suddenly aching me. I swatted, not caring that he was in my front. “What are you doing?” “You ever think that you ask too many questions?” I uttered, voice faint and tried. He kept quiet now, merely watching me. I sighed after a few moment. “You know what?” My tone was somewhat bitter. “Aside having terrible leg aches. I think I prefer you asking questions than staring” I cursed underneath my breathe, stretching my hands out for him to give me a lift but he did more than that. He easily settled me into the pit of his arms. I gasped because I was caught off guard and also because he was looking down to me. I swear. It was supposed to be romantic. His face was incredibly close to mine and from impulse we both created good distance. He was looking back up while I was sinking deep into this arms then he uttered. “You stink” “You should take some shower” I blinked, shooting glares at him as I sniffled my clothes and then my skin. I couldn’t smell a thing. “You lair!” He was walking me down the hallway. Green eyes ahead with a very faint smirk on his lips. Now, why was I staring at that? “I’m serious. You stink” He muttered again, and his words somehow managed to waver my self-confidence. I blinked, smelling myself again and this time, with a crease on my brows . Do I stink? My frown deepened, smelling my clothes repeatedly and then moving over to sniff my skin, and a little tilt to the side landed me in heaven. Well—not technically but almost as good. How could he smell like that? I was now sniffling Aiden and also not bothering to it discreetly. For some reason, Aiden didn’t say anything. Possibly because, he didn’t exactly care what I did. After sniffling his cologne for so long. I looked up to see that we were outside the open in the parking lot. There were only few students left by now. I looked up at him. “Where are you taking me to?” “My car” I frowned. “For what?“ He looked down to me meeting my guarded gaze with a pissed glint. “What else?” “I want us to discuss our project at my place” I blinked, slowly muttering. “Oh..” Suddenly tracing his pissed eyes to meet myself unconsciously clenching to my chest like exactly how a virgin would behave. “You know” His voice was deep so much that it reverberated deep in my belly. “You flatter yourself a lot” My cheeks turned a taint of blush pink and he was diverting his gaze back to the surroundings, obviously searching for his car. I bit against my lower lip, uttering underneath my breathe. “I hate you so much” His eyes glinted in a way that I couldn’t read but I think he caught what I just said. *** We were merely getting to his car when my phone rang in my back pockets. He dropped me down more gently than I thought he would and once I was standing again. I reached for my phone in my back pockets. It was my mum that was calling so I told him to give me a second that I wanted to take it. I walked a little far away from him cause I didn’t want him hearing anything. I mean, my home wasn’t so stable, so, precautions first. “Hi mum” I uttered once I picked the call. “Where are you, Kathy?” She uttered, not returning my pleasantries. I frowned noticing her annoyance at the other end. “At…school” My voice trailed away with a frown taking my face. “How long are you staying after school hours. Betty is home already” I gulped, resisting the pain and the anger that surge through my chest. “I don’t need to be home because betty is” I uttered and she exclaimed. “What!” “You’re too troublesome a child. Be more like your sister. Have you forgotten that your father is returning today” My eyes flashed open in a bit of shock, stuttering on my own words. “I’m..sorry.. I” “Just get here!” She snapped before cutting the call on me and I stared at the blank screen for a while, in disbelief at myself. This time, I was wrong. How did I forget dad’s arrival? I sighed, realising that school must really have been draining me. If betty was the only one that was there to greet dad welcome back I’m going to seem less of a child in the home. “What?” Aiden’s deep husk voice uttered, making it’s way to my belly again, only then did I realise that I have been staring into space. “Err” I cleared my throats. “Nothing” “I..I just” I stuttered, resting my hands on my hips and he was staring at me expressionlessly. “I’m sorry, Aiden” “I have to go” I uttered and he was silent, then, he groaned. “Seems you are very busy” There was something in his tone that made me want to explain myself. “Really. I’m not trying to make things hard for…I mean…us but—” “I care about this project, Kathy!” That was the first time that he said my name. I blinked, wondering how a guy that skipped classes frequently with low school priority could care about some lousy project, but then, perhaps it made sense as he still manage to maintain a very impressive grade. I sighed. “I understand” “No. You don’t” There was something else behind his words and for a jiffy I considered the options again. Do the project with him or go home to dad. I blinked, biting my underlip as he open the door of his car, turning to glance at me with a bit of anger in his eyes. “Send the details to me. I’ll start without you” “Aiden” I called but he was closing the door and driving off. I watched his car moved further away from me and disappear into dusk. I’m truly sorry. I blinked, unable to divert my gaze for a while until it suddenly dawned on me. Dad was finally returning after being away throughout the whole of last month. Crap
