Lily sat speechless as Alex and Michael exchanged their greetings.
"This is Lily", Alex said as he finally started to introduce her to Michael.
"I've already...", Lily started and was interrupted by Michael.
"Nice to meet you Lily, enjoy your evening", he said as he walked towards his table back to his girlfriend.
What the f**k just happened? Why did Michael pretend to not know who she was? She had wanted to tell Alex that she had already met him and already knew who he was but Michael cut her off.
She glanced up at Alex who had now gone back to eating his food.
"Hope you're okay?", Alex asked, "you're not eating your food anymore"
"Oh I'm fine", Lily lied as she picked up her fork and struggled to get back her appetite.
"That was Michael. He was my work colleague", Alex said.
"Was?", Lily asked.
"Yes, I left the company. He was a little bit lower down the ladder when I left but right now he owns the entire company. It's crazy how fast he climbed", Alex said shaking his head.
"Well, that's impressive", Lily said as she tried her best to not look over at Michael's table.
She could hear the brunette Michael had come in with talking loudly with him.
She willed herself to look in their direction. She locked eyes with Michael who was looking right back at her at that instant with a mischievous smile on his face.
What is this bastard up to? What is he thinking? He didn't seem like he was up to any good trying to pretend he didn't know her. Lily was practically panicking in her thoughts.
She finished her main course and was already dipping into her dessert when Alex received a call.
He excused himself and went outside to pick because it was a "business call", or so he said.
At that instant, Michael stood up from his table and walked outside too.
Lily was suspicious. Why did the two men walk outside at once? There was something wrong somewhere.
She glanced back outside to see the two men from the window now talking to each other.
What on earth would they be discussing about? On second thoughts Lily reasoned that she hadn't really done anything wrong. She was just on an innocent date with Alex.
For her, Michael was merely someone she hated that she was forced to work for.
Just then, Alex returned to their table and flashed a smile at her as he picked up his spoon to finish off his ice-cream dessert.
Lily relaxed her mind and finished her food.
"Would you like to come to my place?", Alex asked as he looked into her eyes pleadingly.
"Uuhhh....I don't think I want to do that", Lily said.
"Okay. That's no problem. I just wanted to know", Alex said.
Lily was so turned on by his response. What a gentleman. Other men would have gotten passive aggressive and ruined the date. Lily thought to herself.
"You know what? Yes, let's make it a movie date", she said.
