CHAPTER 1: Avery's Arrival
Their relationship, once strong, is now in turmoil, fragile, and uncertain. Their journey, once filled with dreams, now faces a very difficult challenge. They are forced to confront the fragility of memory, the passage of time, and the strength of love.
This is a love that will not be forgotten, a love that will be tested to the core, a love that may crumble or rise from the ashes, stronger than before.
Avery is a cheerful nineteen-year-old with natural light brown curly hair that reaches her waist. Standing at a petite 5'4" with a figure that is both delicate and alluring. Her prominent nose and captivating hazel eyes held a spark of mischief and a hint of the wild, untamed spirit that simmered beneath her surface. She was a whirlwind of laughter and energy, a walking contradiction of sunshine and sass, with a quick wit and a contagious laugh that could light up any room. Her charisma was undeniable, a potent blend of German charm and Filipino warmth that drew people in like moths to a flame.
Avery was a child of circumstance, a product of a whirlwind romance between a German businessman and a Filipino housemaid in Germany. She had grown up without a father, raised solely by her resilient mother, who had carried the weight of their unconventional family with quiet strength. Her father, though absent in her life, had provided a semblance of connection through social media, sending occasional messages and financial support. But that connection had faded over time, leaving Avery with a bittersweet longing for a father she barely knew.
Despite the challenges of her upbringing, Avery had blossomed into a determined young woman, her spirit unyielding in the face of adversity. She possessed a quiet strength, a resilience forged in the crucible of her own experiences. Her laughter, though often loud and carefree, held a touch of melancholy, a reminder of the missing pieces in her life. She was a fighter, a survivor, and a dreamer, ready to take on the world with a smile and a twinkle in her eye.
Zack Brent Miller -a 30-year-old orphaned billionaire, is a towering figure at 6'8" with piercing blue eyes that seem to hold a world of secrets. His mixed American-Filipino heritage is evident in his features, giving him a unique and captivating appearance. Despite his imposing stature and handsome looks, there's a subtle intensity in his gaze that hints at the inner complexities of his character. Zack carries himself with a quiet confidence, his reserved demeanor masking a simmering temper that contrasts with moments of unexpected kindness and compassion. As the sole heir to the "Miller Legacy Holdings," his orphaned past echoes in the shadows of his eyes, adding a layer of mystery to his already enigmatic presence.
Zack, who was only twenty years old at the time, was forced to face the responsibility of running their business. Despite his youth, his intelligence and determination allowed him to learn quickly.
The loss of his parents left a deep mark on his heart, but the care and love of his nanny, Nanay Maria, gave him the strength to move forward. Under her guidance, he learned to face the challenges of life and began to pave a new path, a path full of responsibility and determination.
The humid air of Manila clung to Avery like a second skin. She had just arrived, a wide-eyed, hopeful young woman with a suitcase full of dreams. She had heard whispers of a wealthy businessman, Zack Brent Miller, who was known for his generosity and support of aspiring students. With a flicker of hope, Avery decided to take a chance. She had sent a letter, detailing her situation and her desire to work and study.
Weeks turned into months, and Avery began to lose hope. She had almost given up when a letter arrived, bearing the elegant crest of the Miller Corporation. It was an invitation for an interview.
Avery's heart pounded as she stood before the imposing gates of the Miller mansion. It was a grand structure, a testament to wealth and power. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves, and stepped inside.
The interior was just as impressive, a symphony of marble, mahogany, and gold. Avery felt nervous but quickly replaced it with determination.
She was led to a study, where she found Zack Brent Miller himself, seated behind a massive mahogany desk. He seemed more intimidating in person, his sharp blue eyes seemingly peering into her.
"Avery Martinez," he said, his voice deep and resonant. "I've read your letter. You're a brave young woman."
"Thank you for your compliment, Sir," she said with a shy smile.
"Introduce yourself," he instructed her.
"I am Avery Bridget Martinez, also known as Eve, but you can call me Avery, sir, if you prefer, hehe. I am 19 years old and will be a second-year college student in the coming school year, majoring in Business Management," she sighed before continuing to speak. "I decided to apply for a scholarship in your company because my German dog, I mean, father, is out of reach now, you know, he escaped his responsibility." She rolled her eyes in frustration.
As the young woman spoke, he noticed her smooth and fair skin, a face not accustomed to household chores. Even in her simplicity, she exuded charisma—a quality that piqued his interest to personally interview her. She looked better in person, with a beautiful smile. And a beautiful body. He found himself staring at her for a long time before speaking again.
"I admire your determination, Avery. I'm willing to offer you a scholarship, but I also need someone to help me with my personal affairs. Would you be interested in working for me as well?"
Avery was stunned. She had never expected such an opportunity. She stammered, "Of course, Sir, I learn quickly," she said enthusiastically.
"I need a trustworthy person, someone willing to work hard. Are you that person?"
Avery met his gaze, her heart pounding. "Yes, sir, that's me. I can do everything for my dreams. Even though my Nanay doesn't want me to leave, oh my! We almost didn't make it, you know, we were crying at the airport and I almost missed the plane. Because of Nanay's crying for so long..."
"Please stop... Stop," Zack muttered, closing his eyes as the young woman continued to chatter.
Avery’s first few weeks at the mansion were a blur of new faces, unfamiliar routines, and a constant sense of being out of place. The staff, mostly seasoned professionals who had been with Zack for years, regarded her with a mixture of curiosity and disdain.
There was Nanay Maria, the caretaker and former nanny of Zack when he was still a child. She was considered his mother and the pillar of strength after the death of his parents. Nanay Maria was kind to Avery, giving her a sense of security within the mansion.
The other servants, a mix of maids, gardeners, and cooks, were more approachable, offering a mix of sympathy and advice. They whispered about Zack’s eccentricities and his ruthless business dealings, but they also shared stories of his generosity, his surprising kindness to those in need.
Despite the challenges, Avery worked hard. She learned the intricacies of running a household, mastering the art of discretion and efficiency. She kept her head down, focusing on her studies and her duties, determined to prove herself worthy of Zack’s trust.
But as time passed, she couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of unease. The mansion, once a symbol of wealth and privilege, began to feel like a gilded cage. The walls seemed to close in on her, the constant whispers and watchful eyes making her feel like an outsider, always under scrutiny.
