I tried sleeping for the umpteenth time, but it seemed like I and sleep had a personal beef that no matter how I persuaded myself to fall asleep, the sleep wouldn’t come at all.
So, I lay in the darkness, staring at the ceiling while the hours crawled past. Dawn was still two hours away, but I'd long since given up on rest. The bed felt too soft, and the blankets were so warm that I could hear my thoughts in the room.
Kael and I hadn’t been sleeping in the same room, but in the next room where he slept, I could see through my walls. I watched him moving restlessly on the bed and, from my instincts, it felt as if his wolf was troubled, just like mine.
