I got home around eight in the evening and noticed that Nicole wasn’t back yet. I was used to finding her waiting for me in the living room, ready to share the dinner she had made. This time, though, I had cooked for her, but I was so wiped out that I ended up dozing off on the couch while waiting.
I suddenly felt a weight on my shoulder, and when I opened my eyes, I saw Nicole had fallen asleep next to me. The sweet scent of her hair filled the air, and I couldn’t help but smile. I glanced at the clock and saw it was almost eleven.
“Nicole,” I gently shook her left knee to wake her, but all she did was mumble something I couldn’t catch and snuggle closer. The warmth of our skin sent waves of longing through me that felt overwhelming.
