UNRAVELING
Nancy woke up 6:30am rushed to the bathroom and after few minutes of shower, she dressed up for work. She walked to the mirror viewing herself with her face beaming in beauty and her smile so captivating. There again she heaves a sigh of relief and in a soft tone she speaks to herself. “ Look at how captivating your smiles is with your astonishing beauty. Talking about elegance, you’re 100 percent an elegant young lady.Strong and mindful of what you’re doing. Hmmm I regret ever falling in love with that wayward guy Daniel cos now I clearly see he doesn’t deserve a pretty charming young lady like me. He doesn’t worth it at all, well am glad it’s all over now. So…who’s going to be the next lucky guy? She smiled again. Well that’s by the way. Now it’s time for Work; we move……She left her room in excitement
At the pharmacy where Nancy works as a Nurse almost all of her colleagues speak good of their boyfriend and how supportive they have been. Each time this happens Nancy would feel so much pain unknown to her colleagues. She would go to a corner and cry her eyes out complaining of being so unlucky in her previous relationship with Daniel.
Next day in her bedroom there is this constant charming smiles on her face as she screw up on her phone glancing on her beautiful pictures and her chats with friends. Suddenly her countenance changed as she screw into her ex boyfriend previous text messages. She became lost in her own thought and gradually tears ran down her checks as she went ahead to view a picture of her and the ex while they were still together In love.
Her voice quivering but she managed to speak “ I never knew it was going to end this way, I have always wish for forever but you broke me and walked away without listening to my heart. It’s so sad how am struggling with my heart to erase the memories we both created. This is so unfair Daniel, I know you’ve moved on and enjoying a new relationship but here I’m I can’t even give myself the chance to trust another man.
What have you done to me Daniel? I hate you”. She groaned.
Nancy stared at Daniel's last text message, her eyes welling up with tears. She had wasted months grieving their toxic relationship. Enough was enough.
With newfound determination, Nancy deleted Daniel's number and blocked his social media accounts. She took a deep breath, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders.
"It's time to move on," she declared to herself.
Nancy focused on her work at the pharmacy, pouring her energy into helping patients. One busy afternoon, a handsome stranger walked in. He headed straight to the counter, his eyes locking onto Nancy's.
"Hi," he said with a warm smile. "I need some pain relievers, please."
Nancy's heart skipped a beat as she processed his request. Their fingers touched briefly as she handed him the medication.
"Thank you," he said, his eyes lingering on hers. "I'm Alex."
"I'm Nancy," she replied softly.
Alex paid and left, but Nancy couldn't shake off the feeling that their encounter was more than just a coincidence.
Days passed, and Nancy couldn't shake off the memory of Alex's warm smile. She wondered if she'd see him again.
The pharmacy door swung open, and Alex walked in, his eyes scanning the room until they found Nancy. He smiled, and her heart skipped a beat.
"Hi again," Alex said, approaching the counter. "I need some cough syrup."
As Nancy helped him, their hands touched briefly, sending sparks through her body.
"Thanks," Alex said, taking his purchase. "You know, I've been coming here for weeks, but I never had the courage to ask..."
He paused, looking at her intently. "May I have your number? I'd love to get to know you better."
Nancy's pulse raced. No one had asked her out since Daniel. She hesitated for a moment before sharing her number.
Alex smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Thank you, Nancy. I'll text you soon."
With that, he left the pharmacy, leaving Nancy wondering what had just happened.
Nancy couldn't concentrate on her work. Her mind kept drifting back to Alex and their brief encounter. She wondered if he'd text her soon.
As the hours ticked by, Nancy found herself checking her phone obsessively. She felt like a teenager again, waiting for her crush to call.
"Get a grip, Nancy," she chided herself.
But she couldn't shake off the excitement. Alex seemed different from Daniel. His warm smile and genuine interest had sparked something within her.
As the pharmacy closed, Nancy clocked out and headed home. She spent the evening lost in thought, replaying their conversation.
"Why hasn't he texted yet?" she wondered.
Nancy tried to distract herself with a book, but her eyes kept drifting back to her phone.
Just as she was about to give up, her phone buzzed. A text from Alex.
"Hey Nancy, just wanted to say thanks again for the cough syrup... and for your number. Can't wait to talk more."
Nancy's heart skipped a beat. She smiled, feeling a sense of relief and excitement.
Nancy's fingers flew across the screen as she responded to Alex's message.
"Hey Alex, no problem at all. How's the cough syrup working out?"
Alex replied instantly. "It's doing its job, thanks! But I'm more interested in getting to know you. What do you like to do outside of work?"
Nancy smiled, feeling a connection. "I love reading, yoga, and trying new restaurants. How about you?"
The conversation flowed effortlessly, with Alex sharing his passion for art, music, and hiking.
As the night wore on, Nancy found herself laughing and feeling alive again.
"I'm so glad we met, Alex," she typed.
"Me too, Nancy. Would love to meet up soon?"
Nancy's heart skipped a beat. Was she ready for a date?
Nancy hesitated, her fingers hovering over the screen. She wanted to know more about Alex before agreeing to a date.
"That sounds lovely, Alex, but can we talk a bit more before meeting up?" she typed.
Alex responded quickly. "Of course, Nancy! I understand. Let's get to know each other better."
Their conversation continued, flowing effortlessly. Nancy learned about Alex's job as a graphic designer, his love for adventure and his passion for art.
As the days passed, Nancy found herself looking forward to Alex's messages. She felt a connection, but still, she was cautious.
One evening, Alex asked, "Nancy, what's the most important thing you're looking for in a relationship?"
Nancy's heart skipped a beat. No one had asked her that before.
"Honesty, trust and respect," she replied.
Alex's response came quickly. "I couldn't agree more. I think we're off to a great start."
Nancy smiled, feeling a sense of comfort
Despite her reservations, Nancy found herself drawn to Alex. She decided to take a chance, but with caution.
"Okay, Alex. Let's meet, but casually. Coffee or lunch?" she texted.
Alex responded enthusiastically. "Awesome! How about lunch at TGI Fridays?"
Nancy agreed, and they set a date for the following day.
As she prepared for bed, Nancy felt a mix of excitement and nerves. What if this was a mistake?
The next day, Nancy arrived at TGI Fridays, scanning the crowded room for Alex. He spotted her and smiled, looking handsome in a simple white shirt.
They ordered food and chatted, discussing everything from music to their childhood memories. Nancy found herself laughing and feeling at ease.
Nancy and Alex finished their lunch, the conversation flowing effortlessly. As they prepared to part ways, Alex's phone rang persistently.
"Sorry, Nancy, I need to take this," he said, glancing at the screen. "Work-related."
Nancy nodded understandingly. "It's okay, I'll head home."
Alex looked disappointed but answered the call, his voice low. "Yeah, what's up?"
Nancy took the opportunity to leave, her mind replaying their conversation. She felt a connection, but her doubts lingered.
As she walked home, Nancy wondered about Alex's mysterious call. Work-related or something?
Nancy walked home, lost in thought. She didn't want to overthink Alex's mysterious call. Instead, she focused on the positive aspects of their date.
As she entered her apartment, Nancy felt a sense of relief. She decided to ignore her doubts and give Alex a chance.
The rest of the day passed quietly, with Nancy engrossed in her favorite book. No texts or calls from Alex, but she didn't expect any.
Nancy smiled, feeling a spark. "It's going well, thanks. How about you?"
Their conversation flowed effortlessly, and Nancy found herself looking forward to their next date.
Nancy's phone rang, breaking her concentration at work. She smiled, seeing Alex's name on the screen.
"Hey, beautiful," Alex said, his warm voice comforting. "I was thinking, since we've had such great conversations, I'd love for you to meet my friends."
Nancy's heart skipped a beat. "That sounds lovely."
"How about I pick you up from work today? We can grab dinner at my place and meet the guys," Alex suggested.
Nancy hesitated for a moment before agreeing. "Okay, that sounds great."
As she finished work, Nancy felt a mix of excitement and nerves. What would Alex's friends be like?
Alex arrived promptly, looking handsome in his casual attire. They drove to his house, a cozy apartment in a nice neighborhood.
Inside, Nancy met Alex's friends: Michael, a charismatic entrepreneur, and Chris, a quiet but witty programmer. They welcomed her warmly, and the evening flowed with laughter and conversation.
Over the dinner the guys teased Alex about his cooking skills and Nancy felt at ease.
After dinner, Michael and Chris said their goodbyes, leaving Nancy and Alex alone. The atmosphere became intimate, with soft music playing in the background.
Nancy felt a sense of comfort and ease with Alex, and she couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking.
Alex took her hand, his eyes locking onto hers. "Nancy, from the moment I met you, I knew you were special," he said, his voice filled with emotion.
"I love how we connect, how we laugh together, and how I feel when I'm with you." Alex's voice trembled slightly. "I want to explore this feeling, to see where it takes us."
Nancy's heart skipped a beat. No one had spoken to her like that in a long time.
"What do you mean?" Nancy asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I mean, I want to be with you, exclusively," Alex replied, his eyes burning with sincerity. "I want to wake up every morning with you by my side, to explore life together."
Nancy's heart melted at his words. She saw the genuine emotion in his eyes.
"Alex, I..." Nancy paused, her voice tremblingly
Nancy hesitated, her heart racing. "Alex, I...I care about you deeply, but I'm scared. I've been hurt before, and I don't want to rush into anything."
Alex's face softened, understanding. "I get it, Nancy. I've been hurt too. But I promise to take things slow, to earn your trust."
Nancy's eyes searched his, seeking reassurance. "How do I know you're genuine? You're still a mystery to me."
Alex nodded, his voice filled with conviction. "I'll be open with you, Nancy. No secrets, no lies. I want to build a foundation of trust."
Nancy took a deep breath, her mind racing. She wanted to believe him, but fear lingered.
"Alex, I need time to think," she said finally.
Alex smiled, gentle. "Take all the time you need, Nancy. I'll be here, waiting."
As Nancy leaves, her heart felt heavy. She was torn between her attraction and her fears.
