Chapter 3:soul mating.

Getting the hang of this DOG thing wasn't easy.

Firstly , she had to undergo special training tohelpher controlher supernatural gift. her special power was that she could control earthly elements such as wind, water, hre and earth.

Next, she had to go through mental training. Shehad to learnhow to take orders from a source shehad never known and so on.Things were a bit difhcult at first but they smoothened out later. her major support was Ricardo,her personal trainer.

There was something abouthim that madeher want to spend eternity byhis side. Something abouthis smile remindedher about the time she washappy back on Earth.

“Commander Zerene, I need tohave a little chat withyou ifyou're free,” she asked.

“Go ahead, Commander Astrid. I'm all ears”.

They calledher by the new name she chose forherself: Astrid.

“Is it possible for a DOG to experiencehuman emotionsy” Astrid asked.

“Whathuman emotion? Beating around the bush doesn't lessen the weight of the question, just be free with us” Zerene advised.

With a long sigh, Astrid replied:

“I mean love. Is it possible for me to fall in love with Commander Ricardo?"

“Ohh! That‟s it?you are a very silly girl. But I don'thold anyone accountable foryou not knowing about soul mating. Its sort of our fault for not tellingyou on time,” Commander Sicario said.

“The poor thing must be so confused. She musthave been thinking she made a mistake” Commander haroshima whined.

“Well, while everyone else is realizing their foolisfiness, let me tell the reasonyou can't seem to get tired of looking at Ricardo's face every day. It started outhundreds ofyears ago, after the war. That's when we decided to go back and apologize. At first, none of us liked each other. In fact, it got to a point that Ricardo almost diced myhead off in an encounter. The only person that kept tohimself was Alexander sincehehad sustained the most injury and even losthis demon mate in the fight”.Commander Sicario paused for a while to let the idea sink in beforehe continued.

“During one of our travels over the great canyons, a colossal rock slidehit Commander Alinah, and Asphalt, who was closest toher at the time, carefully rescuedher. Since then, they became incredibly close. So, whenever a DOG rescues a fellow DOG orhuman, a strong bond is formed between them. It feels a bit like a crush but its stranger. It's called soul mating. That's what's makingyou so attached to Ricardo”.

A month later, with the blessings of all the commanders, Ricardo and Astrid left to Earth for their first mission together. When they reached their destination, they arrived at the point in time right before Janette killed Alex. She was standing right in front of them and they were on with their annoying love play.

Janette felt so irritated; she could literally kill them all over again buther thoughts were interrupted by a sweet voice. It was like the calm after storm, like the amazing saving grace.

“What‟s up, babey Who areyour friends?” Ricardo said, walking up toher.

He lookedhuman now, buthis features were still the same. he wore a black htting t-shirt and brown combat shorts. he came behind Janette and puthis arms roundher waist. he gaveher a peck on the cheek, to everyone's surprise.

“Ricardo, this is cute and all, but what are we doinghere? Aren't we supposed to be on some secret mission?” Astrid whispered inhis ear.

“Firstly , we need to get revenge for the pain these people causedyou and secondly, we are still on our mission to find the missing DOG,”he whispered back.

“There‟s a missing DOG!” sheyelled.

“What areyou guys talking about?” Alice asked.

“Nothing signihcant, Alice. Well since we‟re allhere, let me introduceyou to my boyfriend, Ricardo. Ric, this is my ex-bestie, Alice andherhusband Alex who is coincidentally my ex- hancé,” Astrid answered.

“I‟veheard so much aboutyou guys; it‟s just that anytime Astrid talks aboutyou, I feel like throwing up. I never thoughthuman beings would be so despicable. Ifyou don‟t mind, we need to go now. hopeyou live the rest ofyour married life in abstract destruction or worst. Goodbye for now” Ricardo said and walked away,his arm over Astrid‟s shoulder.

“Ohh, one more thing. My name is Astrid now, so don‟t be too surprised whenyou see an ASTRID WEDS RICARDO card inyour mail. I wouldhappily inviteyou to my wedding, since I'm not burdened with the everlasting guilt of marrying my childhood bestie‟s hancé. Isn‟t that right, Alice?” Astrid turned around to say with a smirk and then left.

Later, Ricardo explained to Janette that as much as they came to Earth to accomplish their mission, they also came to experience love. Soul mating and the aftermath was the DOG way;he wanted to do it thehuman way.That day, Ricardo rushed Astrid to hnishher work early. At the end of the day, she got to find out thathe did it becausehe wanted to takeher out that night.

“Dinner or the movies?you pick,”he toldher.

“Dinner is for first timers. A movie is much more informal” she replied.

And so, they went to watch a movie at the city cinema. It was titled “The Night and the Day”, and was a romantic comedy. It was during this movie that Ricardo saw Astrid laughing for the first time. It seemed that she kept lettingher worries haunt her, but right now, she cared not about the secrets of the future, she just found comfort in the presence ofher companion.
