Devon's POV.
“I won't do it, dad!” I said half yelling. I flared up after hearing about my marriage from my dad. I got engaged without my own awareness, but the man standing before me wasn't even interested in my emotions.
“You planned a wedding for me without my consent, and you expect me to accept?” I asked.
“It was never a request,” he said emotionlessly.
“What? Dad, you don't expect to marry just any girl!” I said. “She’s not any girl, and you will marry the girl,” my dad said.
“But I have a girlfriend dad!” I half yelled, but he acted like he didn't understand what I said, and he shrugged his shoulders.
I knew the trick my father was trying to pull, despite knowing that I have a serious relationship, he still went ahead to set up a marriage without my consent. I knew he hated my girlfriend, but I wasn't expecting it.
I sat down trying to calm down, and wanted to talk it out with him. “I know, you don't like Brittany, but I still can't leave her, she's the one I love dad, marrying another woman is not an option for me, you understand me my feelings dad,” I said.
But the man was a cold hearted human being, “I'm not going back on my word,” he said, and I became angry.
He stood up, and wanted to leave, “I'm not doing it, I won't get married, dad,” I said with a straight face.
Then he halted his steps, “it's an order!” He exclaimed. But I wasn't burge by it.
“And I won't do it,” I said effortlessly.
Then the room's atmosphere became hot, and the air began to choke.
“Devon, you will not disobey me!” He yelled. “I love her!” I fired.
“I can't marry another girl, I can't let another woman into my life!” I said. “I don't care about your feelings, just show up at the wedding and do the needful,” he said.
“I won't do anything, I'm old enough to decide for myself, dad,” I said, and he walked back to me, and smirked dangerously.
“I will consider you out of the family register then,” he said, and my heart raced faster than ever.
“What?!” I asked half yelling, “you heard me!” He said.
“Dad, you want to disown your only son because of this?” I asked. “If you listen to me we won't discuss it, but if not__” he paused.
“If not what? You will disown me? Abandon your own son?” I asked.
“I will be left with no choice Devon, do the needful and stop acting like a kid,” he said, and left.
I watched his retreating back, and got more angry, “who the hell is that manipulative b*tch,” I mumbled to myself, because my father had never treated me like that before, not to talk of threatening me.
I picked up my phone and dialed a number. It was Nate's number, my best friend. He picked it up after some time, “hey buddy,” I said.
“Hey man, what's wrong with your voice? Is someone giving you a hard time?” Nate said from the other end.
“Let's meet up,” I said. “Okay then,” he said from the other end, and I picked up my car key, going to our usual spot.
I got to the parking lot and entered my car then zoomed out.
I drove on the expressway to our usual spot.
I couldn't stop thinking about Brittany, I did not know if the news would sit well with her, I was worried and angry at the same time I did not expect my own father to treat me like that because of a girl, I was sure that the girl manipulated him into such a decision.
After some time, I arrived at the place, and I parked my car, beside Nate's car, he got there before me, because he had business to deal with around the place.
I got down and went inside our personal bar, I sighted Nate as soon as I entered the bar, I walked towards him with an angry mode, and he could tell without even asking, since we grew up together, we always share every important details of our lives with each other, so there was not secret between us.
I sat on the couch opposite him, and he stared at me, casting a questioning gaze, but I was too angry to say anything.
“What's wrong?” He asked slowly.
“I'm getting married,” I said, and he spaced out for a while before he started to laugh, “you are so funny man,” he said, and he continued to laugh, but after some time, he noticed my expression hasn't changed, then he reduced his laughter.
“I'm serious,” I said, and the laughter disappeared .
“What?!” He screamed surprisedly, and I almost lost my hearing.
“You propose to Brittany without telling me?” He asked, and I felt sad about it. I couldn't believe I was going to let another woman into my life.
“Not with Brittany,” I said, and he widened his eyes in surprise. It took him some time to process what I said, but he later calmed down.
“I don't get you, did you cheat on Brittany?” He asked, and I shook my head, “so, how?” He asked.
“It was arranged by my father,” I said, and he sighed heavily, “who is that girl? Which household is she from?” He asked, and I thought about it. I don't even know what she looks like.
“I don't know, I was too angry to ask,” I said. “So, did you agree?” He asked, and I smirked, ‘it wasn't even negotiable' I said inwardly.
“He wasn't interested in my opinion,he threatened me so I had no choice,” I said. “Oh that's bad,” he said. “How will you explain the situation to your girlfriend?” he asked, and the question hit differently. That was the main reason I went to him.
“I don't know man,” I said. “Don't worry buddy, we will fix this,” Nate said, and we started drinking.
