"Wake up, Mady!"
"Uhmm..." I muttered a small sound when I heard Gio waking me up. It's obvious that I did not want to wake up. But...
"Get up! It's your first at training. Believe me, you don't want to be late" those words woke up every single cell in my body. What the hell? I totally forgot!
I was flying around the house, getting ready for my first official training day. Gio is not laughing but I can sense that he is mocking me for being all over the place.
After having a quick breakfast, Gio and I headed out to the Kavans training place.
Gio and I arrived in the area after running for a couple of minutes, we tried to stabilize our breaths before we went inside the headquarters but before we do, we also saw Caligo running from a different location, so we aren't the only one running late huh?
"Hey! Nervous?" Caligo greeted me, I am not sure if he is asking if I'm nervous for my first day but I'm guessing that's what he meant. If not, then what should I be nervous about? I answered his question with a sly smile.
The three of us went inside the headquarters. Everybody is already in the building, probably waiting for the training to start. I was about to sit down on the couch when Soren's voice thundered on the first floor.
"Everybody get up! Let's head out to the field" great! My feet are still burning from all the running earlier and we're about to start training. I hope this bad luck won't follow me all day.
Everyone stood up and followed Soren to the field. I wanted to rest even just for a while but luck is definitely not on my side so I better head out to the field. We sat down on the benches while Soren and Caligo stood in front of us.
"Mady!" I was caught off-guard when Soren shouted my name. Everyone’s eyes landed on me so I felt uncomfortable. I tried my best not to show the discomfort on my face and met Soren's eyes.
"Since your new hear, you will have your...let's say...your orientation so you will be familiar on how things work around here. Caligo!" Oh! Is that it? That's what I'll do the whole day? Okay!
Caligo immediately answered a 'Yes Sir!' when Soren shouted his name. Why did he have to shout? We can hear him just fine even without shouting.
"I'll put you in charge of the newbie right here. Tell the lady everything she has to know. While I train the guys in here you can orient the lady over there" Soren explained pointing back to the headquarters where we all came from.
He should have told me earlier, he made me walk all the way in here just to go back to the headquarters? What a joke. He's wasting everyone’s time and energy.
"Any problem young lady?" I snap back to reality after hearing Soren's words. I just shook my head and got up from my seat and started walking back to the headquarters. I heard Caligo following shortly.
I sighed in relief after sitting down on the comfortable couch, it is not a real walk from the benches but if you just came from running a couple of minutes ago, it will certainly feel like it. Caligo sat down beside me when he entered the headquarters.
"So?" I asked with a brow up.
"What?" Caligo looked like he's not up for it. He did not want to start the one-on-one orientation.
"Start talking!" I said to his response. I am curious about everything in Erebus since the day I got here, Gio already fed me a lot of information about this island but U know there is more than what I see here.
"Alright! Alright!" Caligo said giving up. I looked at him intently and focused all my attention on whatever he had to say
"Let me start from the discovery of this island. As you know, Erebus is an extension of Elletra, the huge island where we live. Hundreds of years ago, Erebus is a home for the Sesgado and higher rank of Kavans. Sesgado has full control and authority over the Kavans. The royal family can not interfere with the Sesgado's decision. The Sesgado has the power to put whoever they want in the royal line. So basically Sesgado is above everyone in both Elletra and Erebus. They are the LAW" I found myself starting to get interested in this topic.
"Why? Where did the Sesgado's authority come from?" My curiosity started to generate, Caligo better answer all my questions or else!
"For a daughter of the King's right hand man, you sure are clueless. You should have asked your father. I'm sure he knows more than I do" Caligo said, mocking me for my lack of interest with the Sesgado and their power over everyone.
"Yeah, like I can ask him now" I rolled my eyes after dropping that sarcastic comment. "Why don't you just answer my question. You are supposed to orient me anyway! Do your job!" he acted all hurt after hearing my words. I suddenly regretted not asking my father about this. I hate to say this but I agree with Caligo, Papa would definitely know more information than Caligo. He would definitely have the answer to all my questions.
"To answer your question, Sesgado is a group of warriors that founded this Island and took over both Erebus and Elletra" Warrior? Do they know how to fight? I thought all they can do is point fingers during court trials. Shame on them! But come again? Where did Sesgado come from then?
"What do you mean by that? Where did they come from?" I voiced out my questions. I never knew that these stories existed.
"Well, the higher Kavans told me that they are originally from Erebus and they went to the south part of the island and found a portal leading to Elletra. That's how they discovered the island"
"Wait! Wait! Let me get this straight. So you mean to say that Sesgado is from this island, this island where we are imprisoned and founded a portal that brought them to Elletra?" I tried absorbing every information as best as I could but there are some that just really do not make sense.
"Yes. That's how it goes. When the Sesgados arrived in Elletra, they sensed someone is living on the island, but since Sesgados are more enhanced on battlegroundmen, they took over Elletra by force. And enhances the island's way of life and eventually grew an army of man and they called them Kavans. The Kavans teleported to Erebus and killed everyone on the island so that the Sesgado can take over both islands" I was not shocked when Caligo revealed the Sesgado's monstrous side. Even before, I somehow felt that there is these monsters hiding the Sesgado's hood.
"What heartless monsters they are! But since it happened years ago, does that mean the current set of Sesgado, living today, are descendants of the founders of Elletra?" They couldn't possibly live for more than one hundred years, right?
"Yeah, sure!" his answer is half-hearted so I'm not really sure. I will just assume I am correct because if I'm wrong, it would be really creepy. Who lives for more than one hundred years?
"Who made the portal?" I continued asking him. I better ask him now while he is obligated to tell me everything.
"No one knows! The higher-ups said even the Sesgado did not know" I wonder if I everything Caligo knows is true. Since he mentioned that all of his knowledge about the islands only came from the higher-ups, I wonder if they're all true.
"About the Kavans, what is the ranking that you are saying a while ago?" I remember that he mentioned this a couple of minutes ago but did not explain anything about it.
"Well about the ranking, of course, the Sesgado is on top of the rank, next is the royal family after them there is the two Kavan leaders, one from both island, there are also the wealthy families from Elletra, next are the Kavan Work heads, also two from both islands, last and definitely the least on the rank are the Kavan guards"
"How about you? You are working as a Work Head Assistant, where do you place? And also those normal people, where do they stand?" How can he say that Kavan Guard is at the bottom of the rank when there are so many poor families on the islands.
"As for me, I guess I'm in between the Work Head and Kavan Guard ranks. As for you, you are part of the wealthy family rank. And the rest, they are not part of the rank. They are just... well...let me say, normal. They are just normal" that's just sad! Why neglect the presence of others just because they are poor? Didn't they think that they could have offended these people, they may be poor but they are still living and they have pride. Looks like the Sesgado is just stomping on their pride. What a monster!
"Oh! Is that everything you need to tell me?"
"Yeah, I think so"
"Oh! Wait, one more thing, the higher Kavans said, the Sesgado always, when I say always I mean it, they have their own way of finding the truth. So in your father's case, it's either the Sesgado made a wrong conclusion for the first time or your father really killed the King"
"What! Of course NOT! They certainly made the wrong conclusion. Those hooded monsters! Screw them for blaming my father when everyone on the island knows he's innocent. MY FATHER IS INNOCENT!"
