Chapter Twenty-One I skipped the cookout with Sawyer’s friends. I just couldn’t do it. They were nice people, but I couldn’t face Ginny and everyone else when I knew what was facing me in the morning. I went to Mr. Jacobs’ office Thursday morning prepared to talk about our next steps. I stayed up half the night deciding what made the most sense for me, and what was the best choice for my son. “Good morning, Mr. Hale,” the receptionist said happily. “Mr. Jacobs is waiting for you.
