Faeries have ruled in their kingdoms of shadow and forest for centuries, hidden from the eyes of humans with the exception of one night every year, the Winter Solstice. This is the night when the magical barrier separating them is at its weakest, and the fae roam without consequence. The humans leave tributes, praying that the magical beings will pass them by.
Bryn is a farmer's daughter, quiet and nothing out of the ordinary. Well, other than the flowers that bloom in her hair every morning and the voices that whisper to her in the wind. Beaten into silence by her magic-fearing family, she keeps her head down and desperately tries not to draw attention to herself.
But an issue with the tribute arises, instituting an insult to the fae. They retaliate in a brutal dance of fire and blood, tearing apart the town. Determined to save her sister from their wrath and end the threat from the fae once and for all, Bryn unleashes the little bit of magic she has.
When her magic catches the eye of the cruel Shadow Prince himself, she's offered a choice. Come with him, to his realm of stars and darkness, or let the world burn. Bryn agrees, quietly hatching a plan to kill the Shadow Prince and save her people once and for all.
But when she finally gets close to him, can she fight through her fear and deal the killing blow, or will her bruised heart be her downfall?
