Anna was staring blankly outside as the maths teacher taught.
What was going to happen to them if grandma never woke up?
The class bell rang and Anna sighed and placed her head on the table.
Winston, a classmate came up to her and handed her a cartoon milk " here "
She raised up her head and looked at him " what's this ?"
"You seem down. Drink this and get better."
Anna looked around and saw the other kids laughing and pointing at them.
She scoffed " hey, did the other kids put you up to this ? Do I look homeless ?"
" I don't mean it that-"
"Get lost" she said and stood up from her desk and walked away.
She stayed in the restroom till school was over and went back to class to get her bag and leave.
Winston chased after her " the other kids had nothing to do with earlier."
"Really ? Then what was it ?"
Winston sighed and showed her his elbow " i was injured last week and went to hope and love hospital , I happened to see you there . Where are you going now ? The hospital ? Hop in, I'll give you a ride " he said pointing to his bicycle.
" Hey , don't you think you are being too nosy ?"
" No . Get in . You will get there faster on my bicycle than waiting at the bus stop "
Anna sighed and hopped in.
Winston dropped her at the hospital. She came down.
"Thank you "
" It's okay "
She ran in and went she got to her grandma's ward she saw Christy's asleep and her head on someone's shoulder.
"You again ?" She asked.
Adrian looked up. He hadn't heard her walk in " hello "
"How long has she been asleep?"
" 30 minutes "
Anna nodded her head and sighed " why are you always around ? Don't you go to work or something ?"
Adrian was about to answer when Christy woke up.
She opened her eyes and saw Anna " you are here . How was school ?"
" It was okay. You must have slept well enough to drool"
Christy wiped her mouth hurriedly and whispered to Anna " couldn't you have said it privately?"
Anna stuck out her tongue .
" Anna... Christy...are you there?" A voice asked weakly.
It was their Grandma's voice. Both girls rushed to her side
"Grandma , have you come through?" Christy asked in tears .
"You scared me, grandma " Anna cried.
Grandma looked at her two grandchildren " my two girls , I'm sorry "
" It's okay. You are awake now " Christy said and turned to Anna " I'm not with my phone can you call Grandpa?"
Anna nodded her head " yes "and left.
" I was so scared " Christy said holding her grandma's hand.
" By the way ..."grandma said weakly pointing at Adrian " who is he ?"
Christy looked at the direction her grandma pointed at. She'd completely forgotten Adrian was there.
"That man ? He's a friend .come say hi "
Adrian came forward " hello "
"Just a friend?" Grandma asked
"Yes " Christy replied.
The ward door opened and grandpa rushed in in tears " honey , are you okay ?"
Grandma cried " I'm sorry. For scaring you "
" It's okay "
Anna , Christy and Adrian left the ward to give their grandparents some space .
Christy checked her time . It's was 6pm" It's already late , I'm going to stop by at the store. Anna, can you go home yourself ?"
Anna smiled when Winston came forward " it's okay. I have a ride. Take care "
" Okay " Christy watched as Anna and Winston left before heading to the store.
" Thank you for everything " she said to Adrian .
" I'm glad your grandma pulled through "
" Me too "
" Son !!!!" A voice shouted Infront of the store.
Christy halted.
That voice. It sounded familiar. So familiar that it still have her goosebumps.
" Mom !" Adrian shouted and ran to his mother " what are you doing here?you can't move around in your own "
Christy stood frozen .
Ayyy, it couldn't be.
Right???? There was no way that woman... Adrian's mother was her father's mistress ...right?????
Christy stared at Adrian and his mother and was shaking frevently.
That voice- that woman's voice- has always been stuck in her head.
The voice of the woman who tore their family apart.
"Who is she ?" Vivian asked Adrian spotting Christy.
"Ah, a friend. Christy come say hi to my mother "
Christy looked at Adrian . What if Adrian's mother was her father's mistress? What if her dad had a family with the mistress and Adrian was their son ?
A Million thoughts ran through her head.
" Christy" Adrian called out interrupting her thought.
She looked up at him with tears streaming slowly for her eyes "sorry but maybe next time. I have to go "
She hurriedly signalled for a cab and hopped in .
Adrian watched as the cab drove off .what was wrong?
He turned to his mother and faked a smile" get in . I'll drive you home "
His mother got into his car and he drove off .
" How did you find me here ?" He asked
" Bridget told me. You should have told us you were leaving "
" I didn't want to interrupt the moment"
Vivian nodded her head " that girl from earlier ..she's just a friend right ?"
Adrian sighed. Not again " I don't know "
"Well you should know . I don't want the CEO of my company in love with a convenience store worker"
"Mom, I'm not the CEO yet "
Vivian nodded her head " alright. You can play around now all you want. I believe you are wiser than to let this drag on - whatever it is "
They got home and Adrian stormed out of his car angrily.
"Adrian, don't walk out on me !" Vivian shouted.
" What ?! You forced me on numerous blind dates and now I find someone that I might be interested in , you call that "playing around"?"
Vivian sighed. " Okay. Bring your friend over to lunch tomorrow "
Adrian smiled " really ?"
" Yes "
Adrian hugged Vivian" Mom, you are the best. "
He ran to his room and called took a deep breath before calling Christy.
Christy sighed before she picked up his call " hello ?"
"Are you okay ? You left in a hurry ?"
"Yes , I'm okay. Why did you call ?"
Adrian cleared his throat " Mom , would like you to come over to lunch tomorrow. Is that fine with you? "
Christy remained silent.
She opened her drawer and brought out her father's phone.
" If you don't want to -"
" I'll come. Thank you for inviting me . Goodnight"
"Goodnight"
With her father's phone in her hand, Christy breathed out heavily.
Tomorrow, she will find out the truth but tonight she shouldn't think about anything apart from her grandma waking up and paying the hospital bill.
