The Town Will Turn

610 Words
She walked away. She smiled at all of us, and then she walked away. She left us. It was probably for the best that she walked away. I did not want to see her get hurt, and it was clear to me that this fight was not over, and it was clear that they wanted to drag her into this. “At least she knows her place,” Oliva said, a smirk crossing her lips.               I stood, but before I could move toward her, my beta was already there. “At least one of you has some common courtesy.”               Oliva flipped her hair at my beta and flashed him a quick smile. “What is that supposed to mean?”               “She is actually trying to help her guests, and what the hell are you doing?” My beta was nearly grabbing her. Why was he protecting her? He should not have been protecting Lucy. He should not have cared about her. I was standing behind him. My jaw was set, and I was more than ready to fight Oliva if I needed to.               Oliva looked over my beta’s shoulder toward me. “I am just ensuring that our Alpha, someone I care deeply about, doesn’t get hurt. Of course, I know that he can protect himself.” She smiled, pushing out her chest just a little in the process.               My beta was having none of what she was saying. “You just want to make her life miserable.”               Oliva had a smug smile on her face. “The town will do that for me. I don’t need to do anything personally. The town will turn against her sooner or later.”               “You don’t know that,” My beta said, nearly grabbing her again. “She saved one of our own. She had no reason to do that, and you…” He turned to look at the welcoming committee. “All of you should remember that.”               The welcoming committee seemed to start shifting in their seats slightly. “Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she wasn’t doing it to try to get us to trust her, and she was just being stupid. She didn’t know what we were. She was simply doing it…”               My beta stopped Oliva before she could say anything else. “Because she was being kind. She was kind when she didn’t know us. I am curious and excited to find out what she does when she does know us.”               “If you’re so in love with this human, why don’t you f**k her already?”               My beta flashed a smile toward Oliva. “Maybe I will.”               My wolf growled. “Enough. Everyone. No one is f*****g the human.” My beta looked at me but only bowed his head slightly. “And you, you are not even supposed to be here. If you can not keep your mouth shut the rest of the time, I will kick you out of this house myself. This is not about you, and I will not have you trying to make it about you.” Oliva looked at me for a moment but did not respond. “Do I make myself clear?”               “Yes,” she said, looking away from me. She looked over at my beta and said, “As long as that human fucker knows where his and her place is.”               My beta was not having that and lurched at her. His hands were ready to grab her. He was ready for an attack. He was ready to attack. He was ready to kill.
