“Do you want me to show you?” I heard a voice say. I quickly reemerged with a tray of drinks in hand. I cleared my throat. “I am sorry it took me so long. I hope everyone’s drinks are exactly what they want.” I tried to plaster a smile onto my face. I needed to stay calm, but the atmosphere in the house was a fog without a light at the end of the tunnel. A blanket smothering a fire, but no fire ever existed. I placed the tray on the table and glanced down at my hand every time I reached for a cup before giving the correct person the coffee they requested. Finally, the coffee, tea, and other drinks were delivered to the right location. I smiled. “Enjoy,” I said, looking around my small living room.
There were clearly people that were still not appeased. The fire was not settled by what I had done. The only thing I had down was put a pause on the fire. I placed a momentary stop on the fighting. Still, it would continue to boil over until someone actually started fighting, which is something I would not allow in my home. Fighting was out of the question. I would put an end to it as soon as I saw it. I was going to keep everything moving. “Can I get anyone anything to eat? I have cookies.”
I looked around at all of the people shaking their heads no. I had never expected so many people to be here at once, and I did not have the furniture for everyone. The doctor, Bartholomew, and the newest guest did not have seats, nor did I. I needed to do what I could to rectify that. Or at least do the best I could to rectify it. “I am so sorry. I will find more seats for everyone.”
