What Are You Going to Say?

The doctor felt he needed to come with me to see her. He worried I would not be able to control myself. It was nonsense, of course. I had been able to control myself when she was around before. It might not have gone exactly how I wanted, but I could control myself. My wolf had never been entirely out of my control, and I knew it never would be.               It did not matter. The doctor insisted on coming and had a feeling Lucy would feel more comfortable with multiple people being there at the moment. He was probably right. I was more worried about how she would handle the rest of the welcoming committee. They can be judgmental about other werewolves; I could hardly imagine how they would take Lucy.               The doctor was standing outside her door when I arrived. “Good day, sir,” he said as I walked closer to her house.               “Hello,” I said, barely feeling the need to give him the small common greetings that are usually required. “You know you do not have to be here, right?”               “I think it is better if I am here. Besides, like I have said before, I think Lucy would feel more comfortable if there were more of us there. I also think she could use the support when the welcoming committee comes by to judge her.”               I nearly growled. “I can handle them.”               He was unimpressed by my growl. “Do you want to?” He paused, and I thought I would have a moment to argue my point, but he continued before I had a chance. “How are you going to argue so fervently for a human?”               “She is one of mine to protect now.” That was a straightforward statement to say, and he knew that was true.                 He again seemed unimpressed by the words that I was saying. “Why would you fight so hard for her?”               “You know why.” I grabbed his shirt collar.               “I do, but what about…” The doctor looked over to his left.               And there stood Lucy. Her red hair pulled into a tight ponytail. She wore a pair of black dress pants and a green top that showed off some of her most ample attributes. She had her hands behind her back, but she was quickly glancing from me to the doctor back to me.
