I took a moment to breathe. Just one moment. I kept my eyes on the ground, trying to decide what would happen next. There seemed to be no good answer. Still, I was trying to find the answer. It was not a good one, but still, there had to be an answer. “Shall we begin,” one of the ladies said. I picked my eyes up to look at who the lady was. She was the eldest of the members, or she at least looked to be the eldest of the group. She had long silver hair pinned and placed into a perfect bun. She had dark brown eyes that slowly watched every move I made. She was dressed modestly. She was wearing a turtleneck with a small pawprint broach just above her heart.
“Of course,” I said, giving her a smile, though I wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted me to begin with. I wasn’t sure what I could tell her or what questions she would ask. Still, I was forced to make the effort to answer all of their questions. I also didn’t realize this would be a pop quiz. I needed a cheat sheet. I really needed a cheat sheet. Give me something with answers.
“I hope you don’t mind, but we have questions for you,” the woman said.
“Of course,” I said, trying to take a breath.
“How long do you plan on being here?” Right off the bat with questions I didn’t know the answer to.
I tapped my hand against my leg. “I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t think that far ahead. As far as I know, right now, I plan on staying.” I looked down at my hands for a second and then back up at them. “Of course, it is hard to know exactly what destiny has in store for me.”
“Do you believe in destiny?”
No. “Yes.”
“And what about soulmates?” the youngest of the group asks. She has long blonde hair. Her eyes a sapphire blue, and the only reason I know that is because I remember her shirt was blue, just like her eyes.
“Soulmates?” I paused and thought about the words that I wanted to say carefully. “I believe that soulmates come into our lives exactly when they are supposed to.”
