welcome

My pack welcomed us with open arms. They had been waiting for us, anxious to meet my mate and new beta of our pack. Sharane was a little nervous at first, unsure of how she would be received. But as she greeted each wolf, I saw the respect and admiration in their eyes. They were happy to have a strong, capable leader like her. As for me, well, I was just glad to be home. This was where I belonged, among my own, in the heart of the wilderness. The first few days were a whirlwind of activity. We had to set up all sharane things in my den, sharane had to get used to her new surroundings, and start to take on her role as beta. There was a lot to do, but we were up for the challenge. Sharane and I worked side by side, organizing, planning, making sure everything was in order. The pack watched us, eager to see how we would work together as a team. We didn't disappoint. We were strong together, a team that could not be beat. But as the days passed, I began to sense a tension beneath the surface. Some of the older wolves, those who had been with the pack for a long time, seemed uneasy about Sharane's presence. They had never had a female beta that was born a alpha before, and they weren't sure what to make of her. I could see the doubt in their eyes, the way they looked at her when they thought I wasn't looking. It bothered me, but I didn't let it show. I knew Sharane was the best person for the job, and I would stand by her no matter what. I took her aside one day, when we were out on a run. "I've noticed some tension," I said. "Some of the older wolves aren't used to having a female like you. But you're the beta now, and you're not going to lose your alpha powers. You're just as much a leader as I am." She looked at me, her eyes serious. "I know," she said. "But it's still hard, knowing that not everyone accepts me." "They will," I replied. "It will just take some time."
