Chapter 15 Dinner is delicious. Throughout the meal, Derek smiles every time he looks up and catches my eye. His foot rests against mine underneath the table, and his hand not holding the fork continually drifts over my arm, as if to make sure I’m real. My stomach flutters at his touch, the way it did when I was younger and couldn’t yet put a name to the way I felt about him. Who am I kidding? The way I still feel for him, the way I’ll always feel. He may be leaving again in a few days’ time, but right here, at this moment, he’s all mine. And I couldn’t ask for anything more. When we’re finished eating, I offer to split the bill but he shakes his head. “I did set some money aside,” he says, as he tucks his credit card into the billfold and sets it on the edge of the table for the waite
