CHAPTER 1

In our society today, it's not easy to find a job. Many are looking for decent work but opportunities are limited. Perhaps this is one of the challenges faced by many of us, especially the youth.

One of the main reasons why it's hard to get a job is the limited availability of available jobs. For every applicant, there is a lot of competition and not everyone gets an opportunity. Another challenge is the lack of sufficient skills or qualifications. Many companies are looking for employees with adequate skills and experience in their field. Therefore, continuing education and skill development are important to improve the chances of getting a job.

That was the text message that woke me up, so I mentioned it on the wall with my cellphone.

It's frustrating!

I lost my job again!

"Lord, how many more cellphones do I need to break just so I won't lose my job?!" I shouted loudly in the entire room.

It's really frustrating!

I've only been at this job for almost a month, and I've already been let go!

This is the third time this has happened to me in different companies!

What's their problem?

I work well, you know! I even do overtime! And then they just suddenly let me go.

"Hey Winter! Can you please shut up over there! Your mouth is louder than the rain!" My mom shouted at me from outside my room.

I just ignored her because I was more concerned about my cellphone on the floor, broken and damaged.

It's case is broken, the screen is cracked, and it won't turn on anymore. I've hit it several times with my hands but it really won't work anymore.

I suddenly laughed at my stupidity.

This is what I do when I lose a job; I throw the cellphone until it breaks, but I still try to revive it hoping it's just a prank.

Along with my bad luck today is the pouring rain. I've gotten used to being unlucky when it rains, but sometimes, it can also be lucky, depending on what fate has in store for me.

Sometimes, I get anxious whenever it rains because I don't know if the raindrops that come into my life are lucky or unlucky. When I was born, it was raining, so they say I'm lucky, but because of the heavy rain, my mom gave birth on the road, and at the same time, the ship where my dad worked capsized, which caused his death. Since that day, I've always been anxious when I feel it raining.

I just placed my cellphone on the bed before peeking out the window. The rain is pouring heavily now with thunder and lightning.

I realized that this morning, the raindrops that flowed into my life are unlucky.

I lay back down on my bed and closed my eyes. I just felt the coldness of the surroundings and listened to the unlucky drops of rain.

I am Winter Cozy, 24 years old, living here in Lemery, Batangas, and I am the eldest of our four siblings. One of the features I possess is having smooth skin but I am not whiteness, I also have a pinkish cheek that gives life to my face, my eyes are light brown that sparkles especially when I am laughing, my eyebrows are a little thin, and my lips are slightly red.

If we're going to go to my body, I'm not a tall woman, I'm just 5'3 tall, I'm just like Belle Mariano. Then, in terms of shape, I'm a little petite but not in pride, I can wear the clothes I wear like Kim Chui. My hair is a bit long with soft waves and deep, rich burgundy red bob colors that are not obvious in my hair because I put a little. If I'm going to trip my hair, I'm going to color it especially now that it's the trend.

"Ate, let's sister. Get up there." That's what I heard before I opened my eyes.

I didn't realize I was asleep.

"What time is it?" I asked while fixing my hair.

She's Candies Clemente, 18 yrs old, and third among our four siblings. My siblings have different fathers because my mother remarried after a few years of my father's disappearance. Unfortunately, their relationship was not successful because they did not agree.

Anyway, just like earlier, Candies is always grumpy, maybe she got it from our mom haha.

I'm almost like her in physical traits but we're just different in height, about .3 I guess, I'm taller, and her hair color is black because she can't go to school with her hair colored and she doesn't want to because she looks like a chick haha.

I just fixed my bed because maybe she'll be back.

My room is small so my bed is small but it's okay because everything in my room has a picture of Toothless like my blanket, pillow, clothes, slippers, laptop, cellphone, and even my wall stickers. Because he's my favorite character in How to Train Your Dragon because his fighting ability is amazing. Since I was a kid, I wanted to watch him, so I wanted my room to have his design, it's beautiful.

After I fix my bed, I go out of my room and go to our kitchen.

Living in a small house has its challenges, especially in a small kitchen. Our kitchen is crowded with our cooking utensils and appliances, making it difficult to move and cook comfortably. Our house is also small because it is made of stone and we do not have enough money to repair and improve it.

Despite the limitations of our home, we make the most of what we have. We appreciate having a roof over our heads and a place to call home. However, there are times when I can't help but envy those who have bigger and better houses. It's sad to see others living in beautiful homes while we're stuck in a small, humble home. But I choose to focus on the positive. Our small house may not be the most beautiful, but it is filled with love and warmth. We may not have all the luxuries that others have, but we have each other and that's what matters most. Our home may be small, but it's where we create precious memories and share moments of joy and laughter.

"Sit down here, sister." Caelan calls me.

He's second among our siblings and he's Candies' twin but they have different personalities.

If Candies is grumpy, rude, and sometimes childish, Caelan is very cheerful, very matured, and he is diligent in looking for work. But despite their differences, they are both loving, intelligent, diligent, especially in household chores, and considerate.
