To say things were complicated between Tinkerbell and me would be putting it mildly. She had me confused, in denial about my true feelings. She showed her feelings to me without hesitation. Well, some feelings she made very clear to me.
Her s****l needs. She wasn't embarrassed about that. From personal experience, I knew Tinkerbell and I had a lot of chemistry between the sheets.
Not thinking about it on the night of an important event was the best thing to do so I pushed the thoughts into a box and locked it. Then I grabbed my coat, threw it over my jacket and left the apartment. The car took me to Tinkerbell’s apartment. She surprised me by awaiting me in front of her apartment building.
Most women I dated or had a very brief relationship with always made me wait. They weren’t done with their hair or make-up. Sometimes they decided their outfit wasn’t good enough anymore and they needed to get changed again.
The driver got out of the car, opened the door for Tinkerbell and patiently waited for her to climb in. While Tinkerbell leaned in and kissed me on the lips the driver closed the door and got behind the wheel again, pulling into traffic to head to Blackwood’s event location.
Tinkerbell pulled away from me and greeted me with a smile, “Hi.”
I chuckled, “Hi.”
“So we’re going to have fun tonight, huh?”
She sounded excited, very excited. I knew from experience that these social events were never that exciting. There was amazing food and expensive wine but the forced chatter and the pretending you like people even if you don’t was actually not worth it.
“It’s not going to be that fun, but I’m going to make a statement which should be fun.”
Tinkerbell leaned toward me, intrigued by this concept.
“What kind of statement?” She asked, her eyes glittering with curiosity.
I should have discussed this with her, she was going to be the star in the whole show of me making a statement. A little information before this big night should have been shared with my star.
“One which will make Grace back off.”
Tinkerbell didn’t look offended by it, she still looked intrigued.
"I see because she pushed you. She doesn't take no for an answer and you're done with it."
That was one way to put it.
I placed my hand on top of her knee, squeezing to encourage her, “Listen, what I’m about to say might upset you but it needs to be said.”
Her eyes lit up, “Please, keep talking.”
Never thought she’d beg me to keep talking, didn’t peck her for a woman with a voice fetish of some sort.
"Well, I don't necessarily think she's pushing me. I think the woman is insane and needs help. She doesn't know when to quit and she's ambitious but in our family, we know a thing or two about women who are ambitious when it comes to love. It doesn't end well."
Tinkerbell laughed, “Well, yeah, I’ve seen the tape.” She sighed and had a dreaming look in her eyes, “Jacob Blackwood is a man you have dark fantasies about.”
I gaped at her, “That’s my sister’s husband.”
Tinkerbell grinned, “That’s the father of your niece or nephew, still hot though in some dark, sinister kind of way.”
I gestured for her to be quiet, “Just enough.”
“Can I be honest with you?” She asked.
“There is just me and you in this car, Tinkerbell.”
She smirked, “Don’t talk dirty to me, fancy boy.” She teased.
“Continue, please.”
She brushed her fingers through her hair, shifted in her seat and got comfortable, “I don’t like Grace that much anymore. I think she is a gold digger. She embarrassed Owen and hurt my friend. He’s a friend too you know.”
“I know.”
She sighed, “So what I’m saying I’m all for making a statement. Let her go off on a tantrum and embarrass herself and show the world she’s not the girl next door. She’s the evil stepmother who wants to move in your castle and tear it apart, poison you and spend your money on shoes.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about exactly, but yeah pretty much?”
She nodded, “Pretty much.”

Amber was holding onto my arm as I introduced her to people I didn’t even care about. They all had typical names and smiled politely at us, wanting to share a drink. Then she appeared and actually brought some life to the party or it was because I had been looking forward to this moment that I suddenly felt more excited.
Leaning closer I brushed my lips close to her ear, “She’s here.”
Amber looked excited too, “Is she now?” She grinned, “Well, I guess we can finally make sure she stays out of our lives forever.”
I laughed at the hopeful statement my date made, “Please, you don’t believe it’s that easy, right?”
She gave me the hopeful look which made me roll my eyes, “A girl can hope.” She shrugged.
“A girl can hope but will end up very disappointed.” I let her know.
She didn’t look like I took away her candy so she was aware of how things were going to end up. If she wanted to believe that her friend could be mature about this I couldn’t take away that dream from her. We just wouldn’t speak of it, simply showing Grace she had no in with me would suffice for now.
"Let's dance," I suggested.
Amber didn’t look opposed to it so I led her to the dancefloor and swayed her to the music. I was impressed. Tinkerbell was quite a dancer, she more or less floated around. Never expected the outspoken woman to be so light on her feet.
"You're good," I told her.
She smirked, “Impressed?”
I wouldn't deny that I wasn't too proud to admit that Amber surprised me in a good way.
“Very.”
We danced, laughed and had a great time on the dancefloor. We danced to three songs and then left the dancefloor to get a drink. I knew Grace had been watching us. It wasn’t hard to spot the blonde when she was glaring at us from across the room.
The woman was pissed. The message got across, she didn’t take it well though.
"Let me know if she becomes an issue," I told Amber as we waited for our drinks at the bar.
“I can handle her.”
“Let me know anyway.”
Amber shrugged, smiling brightly at the bartender who served us our drinks, “Thank you very much.” She grabbed her tumbler and sipped the strong drink.
“I forgot.” I reached for my gin and tonic, “You’re not a lightweight.”
She grinned, “I’m not.” She agreed, she pointed her glass to me, “But you are, so easy on the drinks, okay?” She sipped her strong drink, looking quite sinister, “Fancy boy.”
It was only fair she could call me that since I called her Tinkerbell all the time. We were so into our little conversation we didn’t realize Grace approached us. She wore a dress other women could only dream of wearing so well. It didn’t do anything to her though, the beautiful dress couldn’t make the woman wearing it shine at all.
I’d blame it on the horrible personality. Others were just blinded by her. Not seeing her for who she truly is.
“Well, if it isn’t the lovely couple.” She smiled at me sweetly, it was so fake I could imagine her face crack with that awful smile, “Thought you didn’t go to these things?” She asked.
“Jacob invited me and I figured since he’s family I might as well attend this event.”
Grace didn’t buy it, she turned her attention to Amber, “It’s good to see you again.”
Neither one of us bought that either.
“Same.” Amber smiled.
Grace gestured between us, “So, I didn’t know you two were this close.”
Amber shrugged, "We're adults, we don't have to share these kinds of things with everyone."
Grace’s eyes darkened, “You’d share this with your friend.”
The blonde sounded mad, really mad yet she didn’t quite raise her voice yet. People were starting to catch on and quiet down a little. I could feel the eyes on us yet somehow I wasn’t completely turned off by the situation.
We somewhat anticipated that this would happen.
Blackwood miraculously appeared, walking toward us with determined steps. He swooped in and made Grace shut up. She seemed at a loss of words, that was a good thing.
“You should go before you make a scene.” He suggested.
She looked disappointed, yet she didn’t go against Jacob Blackwood. Only a fool would.
“I promise it won’t happen again-“ Grace tried to talk her way out of it. Little did she know that Blackwood more or less knew everything about her, about us.
“I don’t give second chances that often.” He told her, “So these security guards are going to make sure you leave. I’d suggest you quietly follow them if you don’t want your image to be entirely ruined.”
Grace looked shocked, the look on her face was priceless. She wanted to meet Blackwood, but she didn’t expect to see him in his best light. His confidence and his honesty were things most people admired even though it made him look cold.
The blonde walked away, not making a scene as Blackwood suggested. He then turned to look at Tinkerbell and me and showed us a little smile.
Not the same smile he often showed my sister, but I suppose that was a smile only reserved for her.
“Have fun you two.”
The knowing look in his eyes I ignored. We were not that close.
I watched Blackwood walk away and then turned to Tinkerbell who looked very amused with it all. She finished her drink, placed the glass on the bar and stepped closer to me. She pressed her hand against my chest. She did that a few times now so I knew what was coming next.
I met her halfway.
“Let’s have some fun.” She whispered against my lips, pulling away while she brushed her fingers up and down my black silk tie, “Jacob suggested it and everyone knows Jacob Blackwood knows best.”
