Chapter 1

"Get up Shae, it's time to go." my mom hollered from down stairs. Its moving day, we are moving from our sweet little house here in Carlsbad, California to White River Junction, Vermont. My mom doesn't think it is safe to be in one place for too long, I learned a long time ago not to say anything against it. We've moved twelve times in five years. I get up, grab the clothes I left out, change and stuff my pajamas into my suitcase. I quickly brush out my hair and throw it in a ponytail. I grab my suitcase and my computer bag and walk to my bedroom door. I turn around making sure I have everything and that's when I see this note on my floor. I didn't think it was there before but I also didn't care to look. I walk over, grab it and stuff it in my back pocket. I head downstairs to greet my mom. My mom is waiting by the front door when I reach the bottom of the stairs. She smiles at me and holds out a steaming cup and a donut bag. "Are you ready, love?" she asks me. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be." I say with a shrug. She rolls her eyes and motions me to go out the door. I laugh and walk out. The U Haul is on the curb and my mom's little sports car is on the car carrier in the back. I walk over to the car, toss my suitcase in the passenger seat, and get in the U Haul, putting my computer bag on the floor. I look out the window at the house that was one of my temporary homes and let out a deep breath. I grab my ipod and put my headphones in and search for a song. I decide it's useless to look and hit shuffle. The song “Don't” by Ed Sheeran came on and I relax. I didn't even realize my mom got in the U Haul until we started moving. I take a sip of the cup my mom gave me and it's chocolate coffee, my favorite. I smile slightly but my smile quickly vanishes when we pass my friend Emily's house. She's outside in her front yard waving like a mad person with tears streaming down her face. My heart breaks and I feel tears that I've been holding back and I try my best not to let them fall. I wave back and I feel my mom run her hand up and down my back. As soon as Emily's house goes out of view I fall back against the seat and lay my head against the window. I turn my music up as loud as it can go without bursting my eardrums. A few minutes after we leave Carlsbad, the song “Tim Mcgraw”by Taylor Swift comes on and I fall into a deep sleep. I wake up to my mom shaking me lightly. I look up and it's dark outside. I pull my headphones out and look at my mom. "It's 1:30 am and I can't stay awake much longer. I've got to pull over in the next town, so I can get some sleep. That's if we are gonna make it through this trip." I smile "That sounds good mom. Do you think we can stop and get something to eat before we head to the room?" She laughs "I was about to ask you where you wanted to go." I look out the window. "Sonic sounds good to me." She presses the gas a little more. "Sonic it is then." I laugh and lean my head back up against the window. Mom puts her Nickelback CD in and cranks it up. I laugh and let the vibrations relax me until we make it to sonic. We park the U Haul in an empty parking lot across the street from sonic and we walk over and sit down to read the menu. After a few minutes we decide what we want and order. I order a double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a Dr.Pepper. Mom orders a chicken sandwich, an ocean water, and two chocolate milkshakes. I laugh and she looks at me and smiles. "One is for you ya know." I look down and laugh shaking my head. Mom finishes by swiping her card and about twenty minutes later our food is done. We grab it all, get back in the Uhaul and head to our hotel room. When we get there mom goes in and gets the keys while I wait in the car. Mom comes out about ten minutes later and gets back in the car. She hands me a key. "They said the pool is open all hours of the night if you wanna go take a swim before bed." I smile widely. "Can I?" she nods. When we make it to the side of the building our room is on, I grab my bag out of the sports car and mom grabs her bag from the U Haul and we head to the room. Mom unlocks the room and the air currently in my lungs leaves when I walk in; the room is breathtaking. The beds have white satin comforters, and big, fluffy, white, pillows. The walls are a plush white with a pearl trim. There is a chandelier type light hanging in the middle of the room. I smile and look at my mom. She shrugs. I throw my bag on the bed closest to the door, open it, and find my bathing suit. My mom lays on the other bed with her book. I walk to the bathroom. To my surprise, it's not as fancy as the bedroom. It looks like a normal bathroom. Everything in the bathroom is white. I set my clothes on the counter and close the door. I pull my hair up in a loose ponytail and change into my swimsuit. I grab my clothes and a towel and walk out of the bathroom. I toss my clothes on the bed and look at my mom. "Where's the pool?" I ask , She gives me the directions and I grab my key, phone, ipod, and jacket then walk out of the room. I walk until I see the big sign that says 'POOL'. I walk over and open the door. To my surprise no one is there. I smile and walk over to the nearest table and set my stuff on it. I walk over to the deep end and jump in with a gentle splash. I close my eyes and float for a little while. I must have fallen asleep because I jolt awake but when I open my eyes I find myself being carried by a guy with striking blue eyes and black hair. His eyes are a darker shade of blue than mine. I start wiggling in his arms to show him I don't need carrying. He looks down at me and my breath catches. He has a dark blue eye and a dark green eye. He smiles at me and I smile back. He must be at least sixteen. He sets me down on the chair at the table with all my stuff. I can't take my eyes off him. We stare at each other for a few moments. I break the stare and look at my lap. He clears his throat. I slowly look up to find him staring at something behind me now. I slowly turn around and see a woman is behind me. She gives me a dirty look, then holds her hand out to me. "I'm Cristy, his friend." She nods to the guy who pulled me out of the water. I take her hand and shake it. "I'm Shae, I don't have any friends." The guy lets out a breath I didn't know he was holding. I let go of Cristy's hand and stand up. "I think I better go." Cristy's friend stands up as well. "Let me walk you to your room." I turn and look at him then turn to Cristy. "Go then!" I look at her wide eyed but all she does is smile. I reach for my stuff but it's not there. I look up and Cristy's friend has all my stuff. He hands me my towel, I take it and wrap it around myself. He hands me my shoes and I laugh a little. He raises an eyebrow and I just shake my head. I start to walk away, but something inside me makes me turn around and walk back to the two. As soon as I get to them he hands me my jacket. I smile. "Thanks." He gives me a small smile and he starts to walk to the door. I follow close behind him. I feel as if I need to be close to him. He stops when we are out the door and turns to look at me. I look at him and notice all his strong features. I didn't notice he moved until I could feel his breath on my face. He grabs my hand and this electric pulse shoots through me. A whimpering sound comes out of my mouth but I don't know why. A growl came from deep in his chest and I had to pull away. He looks away suddenly and stands up straight. He motioned me to a table off to the side and I followed him. As soon as we sat down I looked at him. He slowly looked up from the ground and met my gaze. His eyes are glowing! They looked as if they were glow sticks. My breath catches. He quickly closes his eyes and turns away. "I'm Taugue." he says in a small voice. After a few minutes I look away from him and look up at the dark sky. Taugue clears his throat. I look back at him. His eyes are no longer glowing. I let out a deep breath. He sets my stuff on the table and folds his hands in his lap. "Are you new here?" he asks. "Actually, my mom and I are just passing through." I reply twisting my hands in my lap nervously. He quietly whispers something, it sounds like he says "You're mine," but I couldn't quite make it out even with my great hearing. It's like he knew what I was. I look at him for a few minutes then stand up. "I should go," I say. He grabs my hand and the electricity starts again making me jolt. "Please don't go." he says in a small voice. I look at him and notice something familiar about him but I don't know what it is. It's like I know him but I know I've never met him. I slowly pull away. "I really think I should go," I turn to leave but he won't let go of my hand. The electricity keeps getting stronger almost unbearable. I let out a slight whimper and he growls. I look at him and he's staring at something in the distance. I quickly jerk my hand out of his and grab my stuff. "It was nice meeting you, Taugue, but I really have to go." and with that I left, going back to the room. As soon as I get to the room I go straight to the bathroom. Mom's already asleep but she left the bathroom light on for me. I look into the mirror and notice a marking beside my right eye. At first I think it's just makeup so I jump in the shower to get cleaned up. As soon as I get out and start drying off I see a tattoo like marking crawling up my leg. I stare at it thinking it's the mark of the alpha because mom has similar markings. After making my conclusion that it's the alpha marking I change into my clothes and go to bed. The light from the window wakes me up. I roll over to see if mom's awake but she's still asleep. I get out of bed and head into the bathroom to get ready. I come out dressed and there's a small knock on the door. Thinking my mom ordered room service then fell back to sleep I open the door. I'm greeted with a pair of blue and green eyes. I almost scream but then I remembered I'm an alpha and screaming does nothing. "Why are you here?" I whisper soft enough not to wake mom up. "I needed to see you." He replied looking at the ground. "Walk with me?" He asks softly. I look at mom still sleeping on the bed. "Hold on." I say as I walk into the room to grab my phone, wallet, and key. "Ok but I have to get my mom food." I say while closing the door. I turn and look at him as we walk to the gas station about a block away from the hotel. He just keeps walking so I look away. "Where are you and your mom going?" He asks in a soft voice. "Up north to Vermont." I say not really interested in talking to him about this. He smiles as if that's what he wanted to hear but I don't ask. As we walk into the store he holds the door and allows me to walk in first and watches me as I grab mine and mom's favorite breakfast foods; donuts and chocolate milk. He laughs a little and I look up. Behind him is the girl from last night who said she was his friend. I walk over to the register and pay for my purchase. As soon as I pay I gather up my purchase and walk out the door. He's standing there waiting for me when I walk out the door. I roll my eyes and keep walking. "What do you want, Taugue?" He doesn't say a word. I start to get frustrated. I start to feel this pull in the back of my mind. Mom is looking for me. I pick up the pace and realize Taugue isn't following me anymore. As soon as I get to the hotel mom is sitting on her bed waiting. I hold out the bag for her to look into so she can see what I was doing. "I went and got us breakfast, I didn't want to wake you." She nods and takes the bag. She sets the bag on the bed and stands up. I can feel she isn't all to happy that I was gone for so long. I look at the ground so I don't have to see her face when she starts yelling at me about not being careful in places that aren't home. To my surprise she pulls me into a hug and I just stand there not knowing what to do. After what seems like forever she finally releases me. "It's time to go, Shae." I nod and gather my things glad that I packed before I went to bed last night. I take my stuff and set it outside the door so I can get mom's stuff to. When I go to head out the door he is standing in front of me. I drop everything out of shock. "What is wrong with you? Can't you knock like a normal person?" He laughs. LAUGHS! I start to get furious. He notices and his eyes go big. He slowly starts shrinking to the ground. I start getting curious so I release a little more of my power. He starts to whimper. I pull back all of my power and he sags to the ground on all fours. I look at him curiously. "Are you ok?" I ask. He nods and stands up without looking in my direction. "Are you sure?" I ask again. He looks at me with shock. "You're his daughter." Is all he says before he goes to walk away. "What are you talking about, Taugue?" He turns and looks at me with what looks like fear. "You're Dorian's daughter." he says with shock in his voice. "How do you know my father?" I ask. I haven't seen my dad in years. "He's the oldest alpha of all time. Who doesn't know him?" I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes but i don't care. "I don't." I say grabbing the bags and heading to the U Haul. When I turn around to put my bag in moms car I fall to the ground in pain. Not pain like an alpha getting you to obey orders, but heartache. "How can everyone know my father but me?" I ask myself. Then I remember. He left me and mom to suffer the mistake for having me. A female can't run a pack. It's the rules. An alpha having only one child and it being a girl is close to unheard of. How do I live up to that? How do you deal with being the ultimate alpha's daughter without a brother. It makes you an outcast. Maybe that's why mom always moves us around the country. Hopefully we can stay in this place long enough for me to meet the right mate. If I haven't already. Where is mom? I look around and she is nowhere to be found. I walk back to the hotel room. The door is wide open and she isn't there. "Mom?" I ask into the door. I walk in. There's no one there. I go to walk out the door when I hear muffled whimpering. I turn around and walk to where I think it's coming from. I walk into the bathroom and there's blood on the sink and on the floor. I stare at the blood trail to the bathtub. I slowly walk to the bathtub and pull the curtain back. My mom is laying there in a pool of blood. Her head has a huge gash on it. "MOM!"
