My stomach twisted into painful knots. “People are just speculating too much,” I said, hoping my voice didn't betray my distress. “Alpha Xavier wouldn't… I mean, he hasn't announced anything official.”
“Why are you so sure?” Lily asked, eyeing me suspiciously. “Had Alpha Xavier said something to you?”
“No! Of course not,” I replied quickly- too quickly. “Why would he discuss such matters with me?”
Lily seemed satisfied with my answer, but my mind was racing.
